I'm starting the year off with an over-the-top HDR taken in Times Square, NYC. I know it may be obnoxious but I love the colors and it's very close to what was observed. Happy New Year everyone and may all your equipment dreams become reality.
Msmoto: Technical error guess. You could have made the line created by the object the bird is standing on perfectly horizontal by tilting the camera to the left a bit. Caused, no doubt, by dizziness from the flu.
Rented a N 14-24/2.8 to play with, taking advantage of a BL extended loan deal. Here is a Christmas-y shot from the hug-a-tree section of the Morton Arboretum's Illumination exhibit. Practicing focusing in the dark.

I think the standard error Tommy, you used the 500.000 ISO from last night, because you forgot to reset it. Hope you be better soon, we have to sit out a flu ..... , it is just temporarily
And heeee.... there are brand new D750's out there I see, Hammie, Andrew, Photobug, we can expect a lot of great stuff, just jealous. What a color Ali, super. You have to be crazy to go out in a snow storm -12 Pitch Black, so we know you are for sure now , but again just the top. Isn't this first page a great 2015 start ? YES ..
Here some fantasy, wish everybody a creative and healthy year.

Those who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it!
Msmoto, hard to detect what a technical error would be, but did you intend to shoot at ISO 4500? Or did you intend to save your photo, shot in 2015, in your Birds 2014 album? Or did you intend to shoot an effective 800 mm lens at 1/640 ? If you did not intend any or all of those, then, you and I share some behavioral patterns, which is typified by people in our age group!!
Back from a 2-week period off the grid. Shot this in the Dominican Republic. I had actually gone out early one morning after a cool evening to see if I could catch some fog over the equestrian center adjacent to where I was staying. There was, as I thought there would be, some nice ground fog (which I'll post some day). A few ranch hands came out into the field to round up the horses, which caused some nice commotion. But then, the sun came over the horizon and everything blew up. For the next 7 minutes the entire field was bathed in this surreal orange light. I couldn't shoot fast enough. I'm not even sure I breathed during the entire 7 minutes. Here's one of what will eventually be several from these moments. D800 | 70-200 | 200mm | f/9 | 1/2000s | ISO 400 The only regret I have is that I didn't have my 300mm with me, so I had to shoot at 200mm and crop for composition purposes.
