If it's dual slot with XQD and SD, then it's ok. But if it's single slot with XQD only, then I don't understand Nikon's fascination with XQD if that's indeed true. Even Sony, the owner of XQD, doesn't use it in A9. SD-UHS2 should serve most of the purpose, and is much wider accepted. I have a bad feeling that Nikon probably signed some bad license deal that forced them to use it in many situations.
The new cameras look nice by the way. I am thinking about four things: 1. Is 9 and 12 fps fast enough to compete with Sony? 2. Will there be third party lens support? 3. Does the in camera image-stabilization work together with stabilization in lenses, or is it either or? 4. Is there a future for XQD cards?
Maybe old questions, but this is on my mind, especially #2 since I am a fan of Sigma lenses.
1. I feel 10 fps is fast enough. 2. I certainly hope so. If not it will hurt sales 3. We will have to wait and see. 4. If not I hope we can get an upgrade to their replacement, either by firmware or hardware.
1. 10 fps is fast enough, and is what I use in the A9. But rolling shutter is the issue. What good is 10 fps if all the pictures are skewed?
2. Peter already announced there is a 3rd party lens coming.
3. Hopefully. Lens VR did with the FT-1 so there is hope.
4. There is a future in XQD...they are called Nikonians

1. Yes, they are 10 2. If there is a market for it, there will be third party lens support. 3. This will be interesting to watch. The bigger question is can the adapter deal with in lens VR? 4. Yes. With new manufacturers coming on board there is a market.
All my DSLRs suddenly died, and my F-mount lenses are now useless, Nikon must have activated the remote kill switches! Turn off WIFI and Bluetooth ASAP, wrap your DSLRs in tin foil, quick! What the &*#$ Nikon! Oh, I took the batteries out to charge them, never mind.
After all the hype leading up to the release, it’s kind of a meh launch. Mirrorless D750 and D850, big whoop. No thanks Nikon.

If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.
I won't lose sleep over the new Zs Those new Zs are basically Nikon's way of saying "Hey guys see? we can come up with the FF mirrorless cameras so please don't leave us for Sony." I'll still get the D500 then the D850. I'll buy Mirrorless when my D500 and D850 are so old that they can't find the spares for the repairs.
D7200, 40mm Micro Nikkor f2.8, Lowepro AW Hatchback 16,
Yeah XQD is the nail in the coffin of these cameras, dead card format (you know it’s bad because Nikon is releasing their own cards), for a DOA set of cameras.
Well Fuji, guess when I feel like I’m done with DSLRs I’ll be buying something from you.

Not so fast. It is CF Express ready. And I just purchased two XQD and two SD cards in 128GB for my D850. The SD cards are only about $10-20 cheaper than the XQD and a hell of a lot slower.
So my view is that Nikon has the best card performance that money can currently buy and is future proofed to boot. Not sure how the pessimism is justified on the basis of their choice. Just the opposite methinks.
I must admit however, I won't buy a camera with only one slot. We will see what the Z8 brings.
Well, I was way off on the cost of the FTZ. But it's not free, either. $241 from Amazon. The battery life isn't too good. You'll need a handful of batteries charged up and ready to go for each day of use. 10 minutes of video completely drains the battery. I'm keeping my D850 for sure.

Well I think it looks pretty good. I'd like to see some hands-on type demonstrations, particularly of the AF when using F mount lenses. Still I'll probably preorder a Z6. Can always cancel later
Yeah, the 58 might be $4,000. I also find it interesting that it is manual focus. I think that this may be because Nikon is running into some limitations for sensor based auto-focus. Thom has observed that Sony mirrorless cameras are quick to focus, but when shooting at 1.4 in continuous mode often miss focus in a way that would not be an issue when shooting at f/4.0, but are a "little off" at 1.4. At 0.95, this issue must be more of a challenge.
One reason that I am sticking to DSLRs for now. I hate it when focus is a "bit off".

If that's a true number then I'm out on the Z. Disappointing.. But I too wan to see some head to head reviews against the Sony A7iii and the A7Riii.
These are Nikon's first two cameras and I think that they needed to demonstrate what Nikon can do - particularly regarding weight. The batteries are not really a deal breaker for me. I just have to have a stack and I have about a dozen compatible batteries from my D850 already. And how many people really shoot video. And if you are shooting video, do you really shoot shots longer than ten minutes? If you are doing something with a high production value, you are probably shooting shorter takes and stitching them together. So not ideal as there are certainly application that require longer than ten minutes, but I think many video shooters can deal with this.
That said, I suspect that in a year or so we are going to see something like a Z8 that really ups the game and discards the bias towards light weight. If the FTZ adapter is good enough to let me shoot my AIS, D, G and E lenses with little or no degradation, there are dual XQD slots, the 46mp sensor is used and something like the D5 battery is incorporated, I can see myself buying this camera and using for casual or street photography and portraiture to take advantage of the 90% focus coverage.
I see the 50mm 1.2 ai-s listed and i don`t see a Meter Coupling Lever so can I assume i can use non-ai lens? EDIT: Shooting with AE, or AF/AE, is available with approximately 360 NIKKOR F lenses from AI type onwards*

12 fps indicates no silent mode..thats a shutter without a mirror.

Now the 50 f/1.8 costs $600, I'm wondering how much the f/0.95 will cost. $4000?
