Only six of these were built between 1964 and 1965. This is the first one of the six and is worth more than four million dollars. But you and I can buy a reproduction for around $100,000 to $130,000 if we can catch one before it is sold. (Links Removed)
I've been out the last two nights hoping the Northern Lights would be visible from my home. Looked like a possibility however it didn't happen. So, what does a photographer do? Practice some night photography. The first night I at least had some passing clouds that made for interesting photos.
Was a Beautiful warm day yesterday. Perfect weather to go out and enjoy a small fire festival. I already went to see this festival 3 years ago, and that time i burned a hole in my camera bag. Luckily this time i got away without burned equipment ;-)
@ msmoto: I like the sticker in the background: NC Education Lottery, meaning: chances of getting a good education in NC are like winning in a lottery.
Wow, just started processing some of today's shots. This one sure stuck out. I am about 90 feet from the Osprey tower and I caught some nice light on this one..
Barred Owl (about 40 ft. from family room window) D-300s 300mm / f4 MF Nikkor + 2X TC, trusty Gitzo & A-S ball head
I keep a few bushels of ear corn out back for my woodpeckers; the mice come to steal the corn, and this guy comes to catch the mice. (One of the many reasons I love Owls!) As a side note; The old MF lens I used for this, I picked up about 12 yrs ago on eBay, for probably less than $200; On the DX format 300s the 300mm gives and effective FL of 450mm, and adding the 2X TC gets it up to 900mm. A rock solid support is a must for this set-up. Until I win the lotto and get me a new 600mm with AF, I'll just keep shooting "stationary" subjects.
@ autofocus......I heard about the sun having a lot of activity and was supposedly going to produce some nice auroras; after studying your picture carefully, I think the auroras "absence" turned out to be a good thing; I love that very unique cloud formation; From the looks of how sharp the stars are, it looks like you were able to use a very brief exposure; Auroras are usually rather pretty, but most pictures of them are so "haphazard" , I really think those clouds are far more interesting. I'm still trying to make up my mind if that's Casiopea at the left end of the big cloud ?
@ Pierre......I'm thinking.......those may possibly be......"gargoyle gulls" ? ( or possibly "cathedral gulls" ? ) as that's where I think I may have seen them lurking.........
I am so jealous of the birds here, that's my try....
@all, could wow every pictures, good work gals guys...

Nice one bland. Had to smile about this: with all the high tech in the bikes, all they can come up with for the numbering is a piece of paper and some blue tape.
@Rx4Photo I could be wrong but the halo around the ship gives away your HDR like PP trick. I sometime push it too much too. Unless you intended to give it a ghostly effect.... in which case my appology..
Not in much of a mood to shoot today. I telecommute to Boston and spend time there every few weeks. Tough day for a great city. This is an older one from New York. D90 | 17-35 | f/4 | 19mm | 1/200s | ISO 400
