I end up getting it shipped today by canceling my amazon order and ordering it through one of the other stores selling it on amazon (The Shutterbug). That way I could still use my amazon rewards points. I did have to pay for shipping though. How on earth are these little shops getting shipments and the mega giant Amazon gets zero? Whatever, I should have mine early next week...

I pre-ordered the day of the announcement @ B&H and still am expecting shipment about March 21st.

    Hi,

@DaveyJ I'm awaiting your report of the camera. I'm hoping it's a 'good' to 'excellent' one!

    My best.

Thanks a bunch for the reference! I called them up and was able to get my order shipped out tonight as well for the body only!

Also, Amazon will not be receiving more 'body only' shipments until April 14th at the earliest. I spoke with one of their representatives, and he confirmed to me that they had a delay with their supplier. Kinda sucks :/

It took a while, but I had to adjust AF first, the 85/1.4 otherwise produced blurred images. I got used to the shutter noise after 100 testshots. Unfortunately none of my RAW converters got an update for D7100, so I have to work with JPGs and RAW for a while.

I appreciate very much the possibility to use the OK button in playback and LiveView for enlarging of the view - thew screen is really great. On/Off switch feels snappier. Auto white balance is very good, I start to become happy with this purchase :)

FWIW, my Amazon body only order has now changed to shipping soon with expected delivery around 3/22 (slow free shipping). I ordered within an hour of the preorder became open though. Hope they are not fooling me.

    "FroVader"? Really?

I'm fine with Jared speaking camera, but the humor is a little flat. Nice to see something other than the "I shoot RAW" tee shirt.

Oh, yeah and the D7100 looks like an awesome cam.

Yesterday I was in the largest camera store in Madison, Wisconsin looking at the new D7100. Overall I liked what I saw except for the size of the grip. It's no where close as comfortable as my Nikon D300. It's similar to the D7000 and D600. Excluding the size, the overall ergonomics were good. Liked the larger screen on the back and the new button on the back. Especially like the ability to change the number of focus points by pushing in on the AF button on the front and turning the control knob. They did carry over the two setting on the left top knob, U1 & U2 for customization settings.

I did a direct comparison of the D7100 body to the D7000 body. Slight change to the sculpture of the back upper right that was more comfortable with a larger grip for the thumb. Also minor changes under the lens on the front. I looked at the back and see why the D7000 external battery pack cannot be used on the D-7100. The tripod/accessory socket has been moved forward, the bottom is shaped slightly different, and the hole on the bottom left for the pin on the battery pack, is much larger than the one on the D7000.

The Camera Company received nine D7100 and 6 went to customer preorders, 1 to one store for display, 1 to the other store for display. They only have the D7100 kits, no D7100 bodies.

I ran the new D7100 threw a bunch of settings and found nothing I did not like. It's better than my wives D90 and my daughters D3100. Highly recommended.

Would I buy it to replace my D300? No. Would I buy it to replace my wife's D90 or for a second body; Yes without hesitation. I will continue to wait on Nikon to introduce the D300/D300s replacement.

Well we have the D7100 now from B&H. My impression after the first tests is the camera is actually a very big improvement over the D7000. It seems to have addressed every shortfall of the D7000. Low light stills and video on D7000 were to say the least frustrating. The D7100 low light handling is comparatively awesome. I purposely shot some photos and video that were taken to see if more effects were evident. I initially thought on the bigger LCD screen that there was a problem. But on the Mac Book Pros, Apple Cinima 30s. HD Samsung LED big screens, and there was no evidence of moire at all. There are a whole lot of features kind of aimed at amateurs and I will say they seem to be very well done. My oldest grandson will do a video of the shoot out between the D7000 and the D7100 but at this point I am VERY glad I bought it. I rated the D7000 as a great buy. Right now I would given the choice between the two, just get the D7100. It is that good. In terms of price (say compared to the 80-400VR replacement) this is a remarkable camera. I think Nikon has a HUGE hit here.

I should note that I pre-ordered this camera the day of the announcement. I expected it no sooner than the projected March 21. But it is here now and very, very welcome. So my report to the Nikon Rumors enthusiasts
is that this camera seems to be a great value!

Well, I was counting on the D7100 to make the D7000 more affordable as a new second body. Maybe I should spring for the extra coin and get the D7100 body instead. You're not makin' this easy for me Davey. b-(

@DaveyJ: Thanks for the feed back. Very much appreciated. Moreover, I'm pleased that Nikon has addressed some of the issue you stated regarding the D7000 short comings.

    Happy shooting....cheers :D

P.S. I'm happy to see that my "epiphany" has beard fruit. :P

Looking for some D7100 photographs, especially at high ISO. Wondering if 6400 ISO is usable. If you have taken some please post them here or on PAD. Thanks.

The high ISO JPGs out of the cam, with Noise reduction low or off, don't convince me so far (somebody was writing about "clean ISO 6400" - looking forward to see that in RAW). I need to wait until one of the three RAW-converters I can use will offer an update. Nikon delivered too early. I can't even download a German language manual from their website.

Any reports of oil on the sensor yet?

Seriously thinking of getting the D7100 but I am going to hold out as long as possible to see what the reviews come in as. Either way I do need a new camera with better ISO than my D3200. Maybe the D600 with its dust problem fixed in the next month or two will be the game changer. Who knows?

@Andy: Do you own this body? What gear have you owned? What is your subject matter? What type of photography are you doing that an ISO of 800 is causing to make such remarks? Post some sample images for us or a link that we can have a conversation over.

Came across this review in Japanese. I can't read the review but you can tell from the description of each image what settings they are using. They also compare an image from the D7000.

SquamishPhoto: Mike, no reports of oil on the sensor to my knowledge yet but there is one more serious report: left focus error. Dust or oil can be removed by the owner. Left focus error cannot. http://www.nikoncafe.com/vforums/showthread.php?t=355917
I do hope it is an aberration on a few bodies and will not be common.

One of the person who originally reported left focus error has done further testing and now says focus is not off on the left. Good to hear.

Andy seems a touch troll-like to me. Seagull posting I call it.
    Always learning.

Just because one says, high ISO JPG is not very great? Then I'm a troll, too. But contrary to you, I saw my own JPGs out of my own D7100 ;)

I just wait with complaining because I think, RAWs will be great :) . At low ISO it's fantastic! Superb Whitebalance, very good exposure metering.
