I like the safety - when I put the camera in, one-handed, the plate is movable but can't leave the adpator without releasing the little safety button. It closes like a trap and the small saftey pin prevents sliding out of the clamp.
When fastening, I can pull the lever and turn it so it come's along the plate without stabbing my face.
For the Gitzo heads I had to drill three holes in, but I also like Arca Swiss P0. One of the best lightweight ballheads I know.
Got my mount today. It is great. The center hole is 1/4 inch diameter which was larger than my M6 screw diameter. The M6 screw when write through. The chamfered screw head allowed a tight, recessed attachment and automatically centered the mount on my ball head.
Although there is no second locking screw, it feels very secure on my tripod. Since the one I got was only $25, I was able to get a second one for my monopod. I also got the hot shoe bubble level, two additional 50mm plates One to be mounted on my D300 grip and a spare to be used with a P&S or camera body with no grip and a 70mm plate for my 70-200mm mount.
I am good for the foreseeable future in regards to tripod/monopod setups now.
@spraynpray - I've contemplated them, but not 100% sure I would want one on my camera all the time. The times that I used a tripod for serious photography are far and few between.

They don't come cheaper and they work just fine.
