It this a sign that the D600 prices are coming down. A pro friend has his D600 for sale with 4,122 actuation for $850. He used it to develop a training program.

Local dealer has one for sale at $1,000 which is too high.

Photobug: $850 for a D600 with 4,122 actuations sounds like a really good deal. I, for one, am not afraid of that body. Mine has been quite fine with a few cleanings. I would be interested in adding another D600. Will send you a message.

    Just checked - Already sold.

Some one else thought the same thing. I am sure you will find some more D600.

    I've just returned a second Nikon D610!
The first developed oil spots at less than 250 actuations, these started to multiply rather than move. So almost certainly they were fluid related and not just dust.
The retailer sent me a replacement without quibbling. The replacement had a faulty viewfinder readout, the f number lower bar did not read correctly (i.e. I would see fA, and not f8).
I have now requested a refund, the D610 had far too many issues for my liking. If they are like that out of the box, what are they going to be like after 50K shutter actuations?

Now I have a quandary as to what to replace it with?
D800 is no good as I shoot a lot of action sports but a D4 (for me) is overkill.
Thinking of picking up a used, low milage D700

Cujo, sorry to hear about your issue with the D610. This is the first I have seen anyone complain about oil spots.

You have a couple of options:
    #1. Buy another D610
    #2 Buy a D800
#3 A well cared for D700 is a good idea. The refurbished ones are disappearing quickly. So don't waste to o much time looking for one. Keep the number of shutter activations low.

Sorry to hear the trouble you are having with the D610. Maybe you change your mind and try a third one. From all I see and hear it is really a good camera. But I can understand if you lost confidence.

If you do a lot of sports, you may want to buy a D3s instead of the D700.

    Best regards,
    Jürgen

    Thanks both.
I looked at the D3 series, but the weight and bulk puts me off ( must be getting old:)
The reason I am so disappointed is that the D610 is a great camera. It's light but still handles well, it's fast and has a great spec. I was delighted with the few pictures that I was able to take with it.
Maybe I've just been really unlucky, and later cameras will be ok - I hope so
I'll have a closer look at the D800 in the New Year, at least that's a proven package.

I had 3 D600s with dust/oil issues in the past year - I have decided to switch to the D610 and I bought one for this holiday season - I had the D610 since Thursday of last week and I have put more than 2000 shots - The first thing that I did was to check the sensor that was clean- then on purpose I mounted the 50 mm and I did not change the lenses till now - I periodically checked the sensor that at today is still clean w/o any sign of dust or oil.
This is not conclusive but very promising and I hope it helps - the D610 as the D600 are great DSLRs.
Only a thought for the users of the 28-300 mm: I blamed my last D600 for the dust it was accumulating on the sensor, while it was the "vacuum cleaner" lens the culprit of the problem.

Lets hope Bolt's experience with the D610 is representative of most of the D610. Like to see these instead of the experience Cuju had with his.

I am trying to decide what my goal camera will be when I upgrade to fx, following to make sure the 610 doesn't have the issues the 600 did.

Today I took the plunge and ordered a D800. It may not be quite what I need for action shots, but has a great spec and should hopefully be a proven and reliable package (please!)

I still really like the D610 spec for action and may consider buying a second body next year. I am hoping that I just had a couple of dodgy early models and that the quality will improve with production. That said, D4 prices may come down with the replacement just round the corner.....

Either way, I'm looking forward to shaking the D800 down when I get it next week. Fingers crossed!

Oh my, another D800 buyer. Congrats. Get out and take some pictures and post them on PAD.

Would it be foolish to buy the d610 this early? And, what is the worst case? It has problems that former one had? We're those fixable through Nikon or did the spots keep coming back?

Not it's not too early to buy the D610. So far I have only seen one report of issues by the owner. The local dealer has sold a bunch of them and no issues so far.

@Photobug +1 That one 'report' was probably bogus as the exif was missing for the image and when asked, the op posted another suspect image.

I have to ask, is there a LOT of D610 users out there?
In class with most who went RIGHT to the D800 and NOT the D610.
That D800 is a Beauty! Loving the full frame photos they're sharing.
Wanted to trade my NEW (used) D7100 for the D610, but it looks like no one is really using one. Here or in class...
    Is it just me?

I've met a few D600 users, never seen a D610 in the real world. Almost every full frame Nikon user I've met in the last year has a D800. I have yet to to see a D4. :(
If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.

Yeah, I don't see many D600 or D610 signatures here.
Love my D7100, just feeling overwhelmed by the expert users of the D7100.
Seems as though the D800 is more user friendly. AND the pictures are awesome!!!

It will take time to get used to the D7100. Frankly if you find the D7100 overwhelming the D800 will push you over the edge. ;)

People I meet at my camera club tend to be D4/D800 users or DX. Funny there is little or no Canon. On the street etc., - tend to meet D600 users. I have even met a D610 user.

I have a D610 for three months now, I haven't had any issues with mine. I have posted some photos this month on pad. Not to bad for it being new and my first fx cam, I wish I had gone fx a long time ago.
