And I would like to understand how it was scratched? Did you re-use swabs, not use enough liquid? What method and products were used? It is really really hard to scratch a sensor if done properly.

heartyfisher : Nikon technical support coudnt remove the oil spots (or what ever was on censor) even after 3 attempts and kept the camera with them first time 42 hours and second time another 24 hours. please check the report and i have the slip of payment that i used first and second time. (each time i paid 60$)

I have spend hours to remove the oil spots, its not dust, it was stuck on censor in a way it made Nikon technical support think its censor peeling as per the technical report attached.

Ironheart Yes i did reuse the swabs i had 8 swabs but all didn't remove all the oil spots on censor (check the image i uploaded in my first listing) so i reused the last one...

It is easy to scratch the censor if you reused the swabs, i know some will brag about their ability to clean the censor, it is not a rocket science, however the type of Oil on censor was something not easily removed. so in my case i needed around 10+ swabs to do the job.

I can show you an image taken after cleaning the censor and sending it back to Nikon for final cleaning still the censor had 2 more spots that we coudnt remove and heartyfisher can remove it in 3 minutes :-) i dont doubt that many guys out there are much better than Nikon official technical guys heartyfisher open a shop and i will send you my cameras for censor cleaning in future :-)

As i stated before, D610 is the best camera Nikon made since years, the image quality is outstanding, the only thing i had this problem, if you dont have it, then D610 is the best there is...

Check this image, download it and zoom on left and right edges to see the spots

I have been checking out some reviews .. some are saying that the D610 has several advantages over the D600 can any one confirm these ..
    1) AF is better and quicker .. almost as good as the D7100
    2) DR is significantly improved !

So far in my research of the D610, there are so many reviewers that just took the shortcut and said "see my D600" review.. very frustrating.. of those that have both the D600 and was reviewing the D610 some have said that the AF has improved. I remember hearing that the D610 now goes to -2EV focusing. however the nikon official website specs show its still at -1 EV. the guy from adorama even said that the DR has improved by 2 EV ! seems unlikely .. do we have any D610 owners here that can confirm any of these D610 vs D600 improvements please .. I am almost ready to go D610, from D7000, but I am keen to make sure that its worth while.

Something interesting i found.. The D610 is a bit sharper than the D600 .. probably reduced AA filter strength.

    heartyfisher,

I made the switch two days ago from my loved D7000 to a D610, and my first impressions are that the low-light capabilities are dramatically better. Don't have enough experience with focus differences to comment on those, but some quick snaps of our front yard with 4' of snow in front of a stand of pines has substantially more DR than what I was getting previously. (I know, pics or it didn't happen) I'll post later today - but even for a crude weekend warrior, the differences are noticeable, and worth all the fun tickets it took to upgrade. (even sold the D7000)

OK, here are a couple from my first 5 minute outing. Please consider 1) New Camera, 2) new Lens, and 3) the absence of anything resembling skill when it comes to image-making. At least two of the three should improve with time, I hope.

Ok, So I've been trying to fix the post, as I couldn't see the images myself. Not certain what remains posted, and what I have ruined. First time poster, I'm the oldest rookie in the league....

Thank you, hearty fisher for repairing my poor workmanship. Learning never ends.

So many of us here on NR seems to snub the humble D600/610 as the "entry level" camera. But I noticed that many youtube "reviewer" seem to own a D600 even after reviewing all the big guns.. maybe this is the reason .. it really does have awesome IQ !

It sure does. My original plan was to buy a D4 but decided that the IQ on the D800 was better and that I was not giving up anything important enough not to go after the D800's IQ.

Then I went through the process deciding between the D600 vs D800. At the end of the day I thought, "It is only an extra thousand, so what the hell."

But here is the important point. If my choice was a D600 or D4, I probably would have picked the D600 based on IQ. Sure the low light on the D4 is better, but the D600 is good enough for what I am using it for.

For me, the only consideration when looking at buying the D800/D610 was the auto focus against the D610 Vs the file size of the D800. I got the D7100.
    Always learning.

When we discuss image quality, it is very difficult to compare a D600 with a D4. Both of these cameras will produce images which cannot be distinguished unless you are purchasing billboard size prints. From my D4, I have several prints from IMageWizards embedded into aluminum at 24" x 36" and these are razor sharp even when viewed from up close.

The primary issue which would determine a D4 or D4s purchase is sports, action, and high dynamic range, low light issues. It is IMO the perfect paparazzi camera as well due to the high FPS nice in some situations. The D610 appears to be an extremely capable camera, but for different purposes than the D3,4/s lineup.

    What is the ETA?
  • Many will not agree with me about my opinion, however its my personal experience.

I own different cameras D610 is the recent player i own it since November 2013 and Nikon D800 Since February 2013 and Canon 5D Mark 3 since February 2013.

    I use only Nikkor lenses for Nikon Camera's i own Prime 50mm 1.8, 17-35 2.8, 24-70 2.8, 28-300 3.5

After using Nikon D610 and comparing the images to D800 and 5D Mark 3, i can say it with great confidence, the D610 beats both camera's in terms of image quality and colors out of the camera (raw files). even it beats them on low light noise @ 6400 ISO!!!

note : dont believe me? do your personal test and don't believe what others say...

I only shoot RAW When i take photos using my Nikon D800 most of the time i have to post process them to be satisfied with the final results, however in D610 most of the time i don't edit most of my photos, the photos are exactly how i want them.

Also the Autofocus on the D610 is extremely shocking i only shoot AFC or AFS, and both work extremely well, however with the D800 i get some photos out of focus.

I highly suggest that everyone test the D610 it is technically speaking the best Nikon image quality i seen since years.

My first copy of the Nikon D610 had serious oil spot problem, the second one is new and i'm not shooting much with it, however i hope i will not get the same problem again...

Again this is my personal experience only and you should have yours if your considering D610 or D800.

I have seen the review images and also the DXO charts. Both the 2 sensor's output would be very similar up to 6400.. then the D600 (and now the D610 ) pulls ahead.. that has been known for a while.. but the difference is very small and even smaller when normalised. As for the sample images that I have seen.. I prefer the D4 over the D800 but its just a feeling .. cant put a finger on it. and the D610 So far as I can tell, I "like" the D610 equally maybe a tiny bit more just like the Df maybe its the updated expeed software. I only had reservations on its AF since its the same as my D7000.. Just found out recently that the D7000 AF is known to be a bit flaky (which i have noticed.) and that the D600 has fixed it. and the D610 has improved on it .. so I am a happy chap! That info tipped the balance for me to upgrade :-)
