I'm (almost) a professional film editor who likes shooting around with a d800 from time to time. Planning on getting out and about more often as a photographer though as I've just inherited a few lenses and would like to carry on where my Dad left off. However I'm looking at keeping a minimal setup too and so any advice on kit sale further down the line would be much appreciated - especially camera bodies.
Welcome @danjmk to NRF. There are lots of good info for all different levels of photography, just check out the forums.
Suggest you check out the D3300 + kit lens, D5300 + kit lens, D7100 + kit lens. These are all DX format DSLR's with smaller sensors. If you want FX DSLR with the larger sensor, then consider the D610 + kit lens and the D750 + kit lens.
Again welcome.

Thanks @photobug. Been having a read around and yes there's plenty on the site! Sorry I wasn't more clear - I have a D800 which I use for filming already - but thank you for the advice nonetheless. I have a couple of bodies of my Dad's which I'm after selling though - a D700 and D800. I'm currently researching the best resale value I can expect for them. Out of interest, what would you expect to get for these boxed and in very good condition? (not sure of shutter actuations yet.)
Next to model railroading, I've been doing photography the longest of any hobby. Still have my F2 with 20mm, 50mm 1.4, and 105mm lenses from my high school/early Air Force days, but I haven't shot a roll of film since I did our b&w family portrait for my wife's school board campaign back in the mid '90s. We bought the D50 when said wife got tired of aiming the P&S camera at the grandkids, and by the time it decided to expose, they'd have scattered to the winds and she got a nice shot of the carpet. The D50 served us well on a series of wonderful vacations, and I kinda re-oriented myself to picture-taking in the process. The 18-200 zoom was procured as a "vacation lens", and has served well in that regard.
I recently visited the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad in it's last weekend of operation of the season and shot a bunch, see the albums here and here. This trip reinvigorated my interest in shooting pictures, particularly of trains, so I'm working through whether to upgrade my equipment, and how. Right now, I'm leaning to continuing with my current kit for the time being, and switching to NEF-based post-processing to gain a little dynamic range. Part of me wants to take on the challenge of making good images with what I already own, but I like to crop to get new compositions and having more resolution would help that. Probably, the most significant constraint is what I can talk my wife into...
Anyway, I've already gained a lot reading the perspectives and opinions of the members here, so thanks for that. I made my career elsewhere, so this endeavor for me is strictly amateur.
@ggbutcher: Welcome to NRF. I'm pleased that the many topic we cover here have in some way helped peak your interest back into the photography world. Keep the fire going and join in on the fun.
Cheers....

Hello everyone. Another new comer to photography as a hobby and would possibly like to make some money on the side if I can manage to get myself skills and equipment to that point. Shooting with a D7000 with kit lenses. More of a lurker than a poster at least till I learn enough to have any input. Im sure all questions I can muster have already been addressed so its time for some heavy reading.
Hi, I'm from a medium sized town in the west of Ireland. Currently I work full time as a photographer but will be only part time from the new year. I use Nikon equipment and Elinchrom lighting. I've been taking photos since my teens and keep trying new things. My website is www.erinsboudoir.com
I have been doing photography since 1972 and using Nikon gear since 1974. I started with a used Nikon F2 and 50mm f/2 Nikkor H. Over the years I have collected many more bodies, including a couple of F2's, a Nikkormat FT3, F4S, Nikonos V and latest, a D700. I did not venture into digital until the D700 came along. I intended to use all of my AI/AIS Nikkors with it with out the "DX crop" factor. To this day, all lenses I own are AI/AIS from 16mm fisheye to 600mm.

I'm a newbie to this forum, but not a newbie to Fotography at all. I am from Berlin/Germany but at the moment for private reasons :-) I spend more time in Paris than in my home town. English is not my mother tongue, so forgive me please when I dont spell correctly or use the right vocabulary. :-) I try my best.

Welcome to NRF... For used equipment I might suggest checking on B & H to find out what they are asking, then look at eBay and Amazon.
