Typical, I buy a D4 and then they bring out a new model. Maybe now there may be a possibility that a D4X could follow, Now that would be of more interest to me, but I would not upgrade to the D4S from a D4 even with the Crystal ball guess spec.

We all get excited by the new bodies….yet, it might be the best buy will be in a D3s body which has been used less than 100,000 clicks or a refurb D3s. All of these will meet any need I have.

Msmoto, In the Uk The Nikon D3s is making well in excess of £3000.00 second hand usually on Ebay so they are starting to to get closer to D4 money,In fact on Ebay UK there is as little difference of £500 .. on some deals. so clearly the camera to own when it came out was the D3S.

E-Bay prices just reflect the fact that D3s IQ remains currently competitive. If you owned a D3s there was little reason to go for a D4. However, the D4s is quite likely to be a step above the D4 in IQ so now there will be reason for D3s owners to sell theirs and get a D4s. Over the next year used D3s prices should drop.

I consider myself very lucky that I've just become the new owner of a D3s and it only cost me £1650 then. 66k on the shutter.

    :D

I have to say though, the current going rate for a second hand D3s with sub 100k on it in the UK is not well in excess of £3000. Having been looking a lot over the last few months, you're looking at £2300 - £2500 tops. If you're lucky £2000. Sub £2000 to as far as £1500 with over or near 200k on it. I am of course the exception to the rule.

I have a D800 and a D3s. While my D3s IMHO "walks on Water" (I love it!!) I will purhase the D4s when it becomes available. Over the phone Adorama indicated they would buy my D3s for 70% of what it cost. It has about 19K shutter activations and I'll probably be looking to get $3400 or so for it. I do not think I could trust what Adorama says over the phone as they will likely get their hands on it and then want to offer me much less. I'm anxiously waiting for when I can pre-order it. Best of luck to all of youl Gordon Ripley, r=Rindge, NH

I have sold equipment to Adorama. What they offer is 70% of their anticipated resale price.

If it is in fact a 24MP camera, as per the article on the NR blog, things are going to get weird.

File size is too big arguments; quality at size at high ISO; is it the pro body D800; Game changer?

    Should be fun!

... And no time to use them.

Wow, that is really a step up if true. 11fps to boot! I wonder what the high ISO performance is like? I wonder if the buffer size has been increased?

    Probably a typo! :D

But if it isn't, welcome to crazy town.

    ; Game changer?

24 mp and 3D-Tracking in 9 or 21 points group could make cannon fodder of their competitor

Wonder which is correct: 16 or 24 mp? I saw the comments and he believes the B&H posting is wrong and the D4s is 16 mp.

I don't think Nikon could go wrong by going either way.
If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.

Would someone at Adorama manually (and incorrectly) type in product descriptions like that? I guess so. But you'd think in 2014, cut-and-paste technology would be more widely available...

I can't believe that it is 24mp - that would be a headline feature that we would have heard before. 24mp @ 10.5 fps plus better AF and image processing? Yikes.
    Always learning.

@Ade - It might be intentional to draw some page views. Gonzo marketing, etc.

Hmm you might be absolutely right. Still, I think posting incorrect info wouldn't be necessary... a page with a few correct (yet unannounced) specs would have sufficed and not call into question their clerical competence?

I may be totally in the dark, but my attempt to find anything about the Nikon D4s at B & H or Adorama has met with total lack of results. Somehow I am doubtful the D4s is actually coming down the pike anytime soon, maybe it will be available sometime in May or June… The D4 appears from my investigation to be alive and well.

Expeed4 is capable of 12fps @ 24Mp according to Fujitsu's documentation, just sayin'

Most, if not all, the UK dealers are listing the D4 as unavailable
although you can still buy a D3x at only 3 times the price of a D800

Now that's interesting. I don't really pay attention to it, but have these companies posted pre-order items before spec announcements before? Or do they usually go up at (roughly) the same time?
