The big problem seems to be; agreeing what is and what is not, a Professional DX Body Several professional friends and professionals on nrf use a D7100 This thread seems to be more "my dream camera" rather than "Will there Be a Professional DX Body From Nikon"
This seems to a camera with combined features of a D4s, a D300, a D810a, D5300, a 7D2, a Nikon 1, a Sony A600 and a Nikonos All for under $2000 I think you are right, it is just matter of time the big question Will we be alive to see it ????

There is a 100% chance that 90% of us have no idea of what is coming
Then please, could someone from the ten percent group tell us what is going on?
There will be a significant and notable upgrade to the D7200 in early 2015. While it will be a major improvement, more so than the D7000 to D7100 upgrade, it will leave those hoping for a D400 somewhat wanting and will not really qualify as the camera that they are waiting for.
The D7200 will then be followed by a D7300, which will be a "further tweaking".
Unfortunately, there will be no D7400 as Nikon will then be focusing its efforts on the D630, which will be priced at a $100 premium on the D7300’s launch price.
Actually, I am not really in the 10%. In fact, I suspect that group is much less than a percent of one percent. However, if we could find such a person willing to talk, I think that they would say the above.
Speculation spoken authoritatively is still speculation

Canon 7D mk II is #1 DSLR at Amazon. It's very early to draw a conclusion, obviously, and sales could die in a few weeks, who knows ... but if anything, it indicates that there is indeed a market for a $1800 pro DX.

Would be interesting to see what the Samsung backside illuminated higher res sensor will score for their NX1. Nikon should not be sitting complacent...Canon is improving most all aspects of the camera minus the sensor (and one could argue that they are improving the video sensor performance). Canon is following up their 7D release with a new smaller 70-400 IS II, which would likely dovetail nicely for those with the new camera. Sony is also putting out some really good cameras of late and another year or two they should have most of their current shortcomings addressed. Moreover there are improving m4/3rds options; it will be interesting if Oly ever drops their 300f4 and it is actually good. One has to wonder how long Nikon will sit tight and keep shouting their "switch to FX" mantra. They should at least do a development announcement of something soon, if not just go ahead a release the 7200/9300 already. What are they waiting for?
I wouldn't get too excited over Samsung Yes, it can shoot 4K and can do over 16+FPS but it has very small if not non existence ecosystem and if their smartphones are any indication Samsung will flood the marker with the cheap Chinese made plastic crap. 4K is not readily available anyway,. How many people you know who owns 4K TV? Look how long it took 1080P to get caught on? 4K now is like 1080P in 1999. Samsung is only good for making parts for other companies anyway. And they are Koreans and They love to copy and steal other companies' idea and products.

LOL! what a load of rubbish ! One of the lessons learnt by Samsung with its patent wars with apple dozens of years ago was the value of patents. It now has a HUGE war chest of patents owned and bought and real serious researchers adding to it. Probably top 10 in the world.

Just looked up the top patents. Since 1998 Samsung has been in the top 10 companies registering patents. Since 2006 its been only second to IBM.
Patent wars only started in 2007 so my bad :-)

Rumored 24mm f1.8 lense. Nice for dx even if its fx! Got me hoping again for mre dx lenses like the 18-35 f1.8 sigma. Wouldnt it be nice if nikon came out with a 16-50 f2.0 vr?

Oh yeah. I'd be up for that. Using the D750 at high ISO with it's VR lens has really put me off the D7100's 17-55 non-VR. The D7100 needs a VR more than the D750.

+1 on the need for VR for the 17-55 + D7100

Just checking NR to see if just maybe any more HOPE of a Nikon D7200 surfacing by say April 2015 next big photo op for us after the current project. Very interesting comment on the D750 by spraynpray. It is a pretty attractive FX Nikon.
Maybe I am going to print another limited edition print book with 11x17 pages. Most of the images would come from my past including medium and large format but D7000 and especially D7100 would be also used and I will be taking a few pics to top off the project. Actually I think the biggest element is getting maybe the latest Adobe InDesign and a really good printer for Epson double sided fairly thick papers. Right now I am still using my now older Epson R2400.
But I am looking a little more at FX Nikon like D750 or D810. It also requires going a fair amount to scenes that we did major farm and landscaping work that is quite stunning but at fall color peak....magic. But spraynpray's high ISO is maybe not what I would expect to shoot in for that limited goal. Usually I would shoot such a scene in 400 ISO in maybe at f 14. Just writing this makes me realize that usually only video upgrades really end up selling us a new camera. But pro level DX seems LESS attractive to me than D7200. As soon as all the body sealing etc. adding cost to an already very tough camera. I spent yesterday outdoors in pretty challenging weather where we are working and the D7100 and the Sigma 10-20mm DX lens performed very well. For now I am very happy with what I have.
