I'd like to know why as well. I like the locking mode feature. I was forever accidentally changing settings whiteout that on other Nikons.
Nikon D7100; AF-S DX 35mm f1.8; AF-S DX Macro 40mm f2.8; AF-S DX 18-200mm VRII; SB-700 Speed Light and a bunch of other not very noteworthy stuff......
Depends on what you mean by "Pro Body" I for one have been clamoring for the Pro DX body because I hated the ergonomics of the D7100 and below and for that matter the D610 too. I loved the way the D300 felt in my hands.
My opinion of course but I think Nikon fixed the ergonomics problem with the D750! Love the way it fits in my hand and frankly I think it's the sweet spot in the Nikon line up (oops that for a different thread). My point being if you're looking for a all Metal Pro DX body, I don't think it's coming and I think the existence of the D610 and D750 are good evidence. But if you're expecting a high end DX camera in a Plastic or hybrid body (i.e. D750), it will come! Whether Nikon calls it the D7200 or D9xxx or what ever there will be a better DX body coming.
To bad I got the D750, it is such an incredible camera that I got rid of all my DX lenses and probably won't look back.
Nice assessment on a "pro body" DX model. Totally agree with the ergonomics on the D750. The more I use mine the more I love it. I shot over 175 pictures over two days and the IQ is so nice.

it's just cumbersome MHO. Some people hate it some people love it. I'm on the hate side...
No offense, but here's hoping there are more of us on the "love" side than the "hate" side.

Interesting, I do prefer the D200/D300 mode dial, which I think was the same on the D700/D810 as well. But really don't love or hate the locking mode dial, it works fine.
I like the locking button for the top dial, but the badly placed fiddly little button for the lower dial is a complete nightmare for freezing cold fingers IME. Now the top button is there, I would prefer they make it release both dials not just the top one.

I guess I had more issues with the lower dial than the upper dial as well...
D7200, 40mm Micro Nikkor f2.8, Lowepro AW Hatchback 16,
"The camera supports a broad range of standard sensitivities, from ISO 100 to 25600, making capture of images exhibiting excellent detail with little noise possible, even in dark surroundings." We will see. Now if is is true that a Dx sensor has a native ISO of 100 to 25,600 that would be quite remarkable and something few people would have thought possible just a few months ago. It sure could be a good sensor for a pro Dx DSLR.
CES is quite disappointing so far. The D5500 vs D5300 .... really? Doesn't seem like there's much new here. Another iteration ... again. D7200/9300 .. not a peep. Nikon's PR leaves one speechless. Is the D5500 the proof that they haven't forgotten DX!? I shake my head ... end of rant.
@nukuEX2: What are you missing in the D7100 that you want from a D7200? I think if I was interested in the D7XXX series I would buy a D7100 now. They are great bang for the buck at almost half the price as when introduced.

D7100 is due for an upgrade. I'll endure the pain till CP next month in Japan. but if nothing is shown at the CP, I'll buy either D610 or D750. ( Are you sure about D7200?
The D7200 will be announced at the Feb Photo show. Patience is a virtue unless you waiting for a D9300. LoL . :-((

The ability to maintain hope in the face of despair is also essential.
+1 WestEndFoto Now you know why I moved on 15 months ago. From my perspective, it's been great. The IQ, less noise, low light AF tracking, and more have just made me smile. Don't let technology continue to evolve with out jumping on board.

It seems that there will be a pro level DX camera after all. At a recent visit to Nikon headquarters in Japan the direct question was asked "will there be a pro level DX camera from Nikon. Answer "Nikon will be releasing a direct competitor to the Canon 7DMkII". (Mobile01 webpage - see main page of NR) Those D300s devotees who have waited will be rewarded for their unwavering patience.

LOL ! I will believe it when I see it. That statement could mean that the D7200 is positioned as the 7DM2's competitor. but its a bit of hope .. just that all previous snippets of hope have been broken.
