Frankly I doubt the D7200 will beat the 7D2.
It may not beat it on fps or on "pro" controls
The 7D2 might even have better high ISO performance
but a critical feature of any dx DSLR is price
I suspect the D7200 will win on bangs for your bucks
I have heard some nasty rumor about ISO performance on the 7DMKII. At higher ISO values is really good but at lower values it's not that good. Strange but I have read that in two places. Time will tell as more reviewers test this camera.

For avid bird photographers, the 7DMKLL 10fps will keep them happy. From a price perspective, the D7200 will bring smiles to many Nikon shooters.

I was not around digital when the D300 & D700 were but sounds like they made a matched pair, one DX and the other FX. I was still shooting film.

Could Nikon be headed to pairing the D750 and the D7200?
Is there hope of a D810 and D9300 to come?
I think the latter would be my choice. It sure should help sales, especially among those who like to use bath formants.

I never was famous for spelling and my proof reading isn't much better.

Lets say "both formats". Sometimes spell checker can even mess me up.

Obviously, because it has custom user settings 1, 2, and 3 right?

    LOL.
I read that and was wondering about it myself...just that "formants" are "the spectral peaks of the sound spectrum" so thought made there was something acoustically unique about the 810 and the 9300. The 810 does have a nice shutter sound, and probably does sound better in a bathroom for those that do a lot of shooting on the sh!tter :P

I saw the partial review and decided to wait until he had images and final comments. Hope he doesn't over exaggerate like he tends to.

Really...he just loves to bounce from one "Great camera" to another. Guess I should go check out his current review.

The Nikon will beat the canon on noise too - as usual - but one is not comparing eggs with eggs when comparing a prosumer body in it's entirety with a professional one so it's pointless to try. Lets wait for the D400 and compare the two.

Strange thing I've noticed about noise on the D7100 (and most Nikons) and the 7D is that the noise on Nikons tends to get worse fairly linearly (so one tries to keep it as low as poss) whereas the noise on the 7D gets quite bad as you get to 1600 then not a lot worse up to 6400. This means that if you have to use 1600 ISO then what the heck - stick it on 6400 and have some flexibility! Bizarre, but strangely good too! :-B
    Always learning.

I am buying a D7200 as I use the D7100 almost all the time anymore and sure could use a second body that could allow me to have two lens and two bodies ready for anything (probably one with the 16-85 or the Sigma 10-20 and the other with the 70-300 Nikkor or the 55-300 Nikkor.

I shot two Nikon film bodies for so so many years but back them is was prime lens. Even when I went to zoom lens I still used two bodies. Since the switch to digital it's been one but now it's two. Go for that D7200 and make it your prime body and let us now how it works. Two bodies are always better than one. LoL

@PitchBlack - thanks for the details on both brands. When I read that one review and then a second on the 7DMK2 I thought perhaps Canon messed up on this camera. I will do some digging to find those comments. Again thanks for the iso noise comparison info.

    I have been eyeing a D7100 as a TC for my 70-200 2.8 VR2.

Now I think I will wait for the D7200. My guess is that the jump from D7100 to D7200 will be a bit like D800 to D810 - on paper a lot of small improvements but overall a better camera. AF improvements will be the most important for me as I am going to use it for tele work.

Nikon is using different 24MP DX sensors. So maybe we will see image quality improvements with the D7200 - I am hoping for an improved Sony sensor.

Have you considered selling the 70 -200 and getting the amazing 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 AF-S

@sevencrossing: I have :-) I only have one problem with that - I like my 70-200 too much :-) It works great on my D800

Maybe an upgraded Nikon 300 F4 would give me something to think about.

My d5100 bit the dust, well carpet actually. I have been holding out for the hoped for d9300. If the d5100 can't be repaired I may have to move sooner than I wanted.

D7200 where are you? How soon are you coming?

The early rumor was it would be released at the CES or the February Photo Show. Well, it wasn't released at CES so it should be announced before or at the Photo Show in a couple of weeks. It's all my prediction but seems logical based upon what I have read.

I think we can take Expeed 4 for granted
Which should mean higher fps and ISO
It will be more expensive than the D7100 but a lot less than the 7D2
Nikon will brand it a their flagship Dx camera
A few more people will give up waiting for the D400
(others will keep praying for a D9300, that will knock the spots off the 7D2)
Other big improvements will be for video
    I AM VIDEO

With the D810 Nikon showed that a lot of small improvements would make for an overall better camera than the D800/D800E. Sometimes you can not judge a new camera on the spec sheet alone.

I think the D7200 will be a nice upgrade to the already very good D7100.

+1 for sure. It's the little things that make the difference.
