@proudgeek - you could extend your negative vignette by carefully brushing over exposure onto the background to virtually or completely remove it. You are right - that would improve it from a good shot to a VERY good shot.
Thanks for the positive words all. @ donaldejose, that's quite a pack you have. My kids are all over me for just one puppy. @ ChromiumPrime, I've been wanting to get down to Miami to shoot South Beach and the Art Deco district at night for so long. Someday...Super nice capture. @ Adamz, I've always been amazed by your isolated subject captures. This one in particular is an exquisite play on whites and grays.
To your question about focus, it was definitely a challenge at first. A well lit face went a really long way as most of the shots I took in even slightly dim light were a lot trickier to nail. I plan on selling my 85mm 1.4 to acquire an 85mm 1.8G and a 50mm f1.8G, so light weight portrait days will consist of the D5200 and either or both of those two G lenses - and thus AF will help in those scenarios where the tiny viewfinder and poor light render MF a larger challenge than normal. Lets just say that I have a renewed appreciation of the bright, huge FX viewfinder. :]
@Rx4Photo thank you! I've done a SoBe group shooting a while back. Very fun experience... but the funniest thing was people kept stopping by us and asking "who's eating there?" They thought we were paparazzi! )
Well, if you ever do and I'm still in the area please do let me know... we can at least meet up over coffee or something ~O)
A somewhat strange image, taken just at 12AM Jan 1st. People across the street were shooting off fireworks, so I thought I'd try to get some shots. I ended up, "painting" with light instead.

If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.
MsMoto: Absolutely love those cars. My old 911 gives me feeling of direct connection with the car no other car I ever drove gave me. Much better than a BMW. Drove an old Boxster for two weeks and it gave me the same connection feeling. I have never driven the SUVs or the Panamera.
SquamishPhoto: Lightweight Portrait body/lens combo is a good idea. Let us know how limiting you think that 24mp DX sensor is for your work. What will your experience with it show is the largest print size you can make? I am guessing you will be able to make adequate poster size prints but I don't know.
Coastal, great timing! and of course great shot. I wish I could get closer than about 50 yards to herons. Where go to see them, they have a long flight distance and all I have for a telephoto is the 70-300mm. They are great birds to photograph.
Pickerel, I hope your preparations for hiking the trail involve more than baking cupcakes.
Thanks everyone for the critiques yesterday. This is what happens when you lock someone in the house with a macro lens. Still winter up here and still stir crazy. D90 | 105 macro | f/25 | .3s | ISO 200

Nice capture @admaz!
Not sure that's what Henry Ford had in mind for his trucks but I bet he'd have one just like it.
Here is my dog, looking for something to chase after.
