When I leave for the Appalachian Trail, I will not shave my beard as many suggest I do. The most recent photos of me without a beard date from February 2007 - over a quarter of my life has gone by since I last shaved, though I have trimmed it. It's definitely been the best quarter, so I don't plan on interrupting it with a shave. Reading Becoming Odyssa, a book by a past thru-hiker and trail runner, the author at one point mentions one of her temporary companions putting five shishkebab spears in their beard while they were at a wedding. It's the random little things like that which really reinforce how I 'belong' in the hiker community, if I belong in any community. :P On that note, here's a self-portrait from a recent techno-folk dance, with five glowsticks in my beard. They stayed there for about half an hour, at which point I removed them because people I was dancing with were getting hit in the face...
This photo cropped about 50 percent and enlarged back to original size using the Nikon V1, FT-1, Nikon 300mm F4. I had just finished shooting for the day, taken the tripod down, and was putting my dog on the leash when this Blue Heron dropped behind me. The lighting was extraordinary so shot this one by hand to catch the light. Shooting wildlife / birds is full of surprises which are fun to grab!
I see Golf posted a photo of his wine cellar..... LOL I suspect folks may be tired of all the old cars, new cars, etc, so here is a lobby shot of The Henry Ford in Dearborn.
Golf, I was going to ask where the crypt was located, but msmoto answered the question for me. I think that would be a great location of a meeting of PAD contributors!
