I'm not so sure it's known when the D820 arrives. But if there'll be an actual D810 successor, I'm guessing 36 Mp, 6-7 fps, 4K video, SnapBridge, 153 pts AF from D5. I think it takes a dedicated high-MP body to compete with Canon, Sony, and the medium format guys, and I think a D820 could stay as the general purpose body. If it'll shoot 7 fps (FX) and get the AF from the D5, I think the "where's the real D700 successor?" question will finally die.
It just seems to me Nikon will not let Cannon have the high MP without countering it. If it is not the D820 I wonder if we could have a D900. A D900 with 50+ MP and the focus and a few other goodies from the D5 would be awesome.
How about a D900 (FX) and a D9000 (DX) that are a matched pair like the D5 and D500. That would give us just about all the high end DSLR user could want. 4 choices with similar controls so switching bodies would be a snap. If the D820 does become the high MP camera then can we have a D8200 little sibling?
We waited a long time for the D500 D5 pair. Nikon don't make us wait so long for this.
I have an D810, D4, and D500. The D810 is my "most used" body. I turn to the D4 when "I cannot fail." I have not upgraded to the D5 because it did not offer enough of an upgrade. I hope the D810 offers a real reason to upgrade.
Robert M. Poston: D4, D810, V3, 14-24 F2.8, 24-70 f2.8, 70-200 f2.8, 80-400, 105 macro.
The registration of bodies relates to the RF emmissions so if its just a sensor upgrade In dont think you would need to do that so DF could go to DF2 D810 to D 850
I agree with IanG. The D810 and D750 are great cameras and the prices have dropped to a point that they are affordable or are alot lower than the new model is going to be and it sounds like the upgrade will be minimal.
Because it will sell at the $1,200 price point and have the controls the D5600 does not have. That price point and that body style is the choice of a very large number of DX users. With the sensor from the D500 it will be a great bang for the buck. Wise move in my opinion.
It took nearly 4 months (from 15th Dec) for D7500 from registration (N1610) till it was finally announced today. Since no other camera is registered for Thailand (DSLR), it's for sure Nikon is not going to announce any more FX before the centenary
The one SD care slot was a surprise to me. Why did Nikon do this? Must be to save space, not cost. Anyone using the camera for a wedding would want two cards so they have an automatic backup, I would think. Perhaps Nikon is trying to push such people to the D500 if they want DX or to the D750 if they want FX at a similar price point. You should be able to find these used for near the same price as a new D7500.
It looks like a nice camera time will tell if there are any problems. It is about what I expected but as D500 owner I think I would rather have a D7200 with the D500 body and processor up grade.
I am hoping for a FX up grade ( in a year or two ) but now wonder if it would be wise to find a D7200 after a good price drop for a DX kit and move to FX even later after they do another round of upgrades. I would keep a D5100 for the grandkids with smaller hands to learn with. They seem to like the small size.
Dumb me this was supposed to be on the D7500 thread.
Although I eagerly wait the D810 successor I'm happy that this is not the N1610 because I want it to be made in Japan like D800 and not made in Thailand like D810.
My only concern is that when Nikon bring out the new model they don't get carried away with the price, like they did with the D3X. The D810 is great value for money. Please Nikon be realistic on price when the new model is announced.
@donaldejose I agree with your comment on the 11th but I don't see how the D7500 fits into Nikon's announcement about the future strategy of focusing on high end products. I don't see the D7500 being better than the D500. It seems to me that this is another example of a company that has either no direction or has lost their way and their leadership are not committed to the companies mission and vision.
