A landscape shot from a local regional park where my wife and I did some hiking last weekend in the San Francisco Bay area - Briones Regional Park. Spring is here
@ Tidewatcher..........That's a very nice shot of a beautiful place; the colors are very nice, exposure is "right on" and composition is fine; having said that, please allow me to offer a suggestion; most of the people who look at the pictures that members submit are photographers themselves; and photographers tend to be a very curious lot; every time they see another photographer's picture, they almost invariably "wonder" about 3 or 4 things; "I wonder what camera", "I wonder what lens", "I wonder what exposure" (exif data), and "I wonder where that is".......simply adding most (or any) of that information will almost always create more interest and enthusiasm from most viewers.
Here's a follow-up for Gitzo. The battery is recharged on a little stand, and there is also a more subtle illumination mode where the dial is blue. Here it is in daylight, since you asked. I've got one more of another watch that I want to share (tomorrow, Tommie). ;-)
Squamish, thanks for the compliment. I love your portraiture, so thanks for posting.
CC is welcome. DC is also welcome when I deserve it.
95% (Patience + Skill), 5% luck..... You do this well and it is not because you are lucky, but simply have the skill to do. Of course, without that 5% we end up with nothing...LOL
I would add patience to Coastal's repertoire. My guess is that those birds don't just come right out and pose when they see him show up with his camera. An older one of mine today. Perhaps if I'd better understood DOF at the time I would have shot this at f/9 or 11 to keep a little more of the snail in focus while maintaining that sense of isolation here. Here is something a bit different, I think. This was the final lighting setup for my recent piano shoot. The big difficulty in these is the piano being in the way. The final lighting is obtained by a well controlled light on the reflector, fill from the top half of the umbrella. Other setups were umbrella overhead at piano right, and one half way up on piano left. I post this only so some folks who do not use stuff like this can see at least what one person does.

CoastalConn could you please write a book on improving your luck with skill?! I'll buy the first copy.
I will stand around and look at the problem, then set up lights like I think I want them. Test shots...then redo the lights. More tests, and again redo.
In my head I have a picture of the lights. And how I want the final image to appear...highlights, shadows, and the ratio between these. Of course I am looking at the background and deciding on this as well.
In this shoot, the organ recital hall was the way it was...and I did not want to create an artificial background. we did pull the piano out a couple feet from the base of the organ, this to get some space for lights and me.
I discuss with my subjects everything I am doing before we start. in some of the shots where the camera was literally on the keyboard I asked her to simply play into my hands and I would attempt to get out of her way.
No diagrams for this one, but I have done this in the past, especially if an art director or client is standing around.
Really nice race shot, bland. The subject separation is great and the action is perfect, however it seems like its color could be a bit more lively. SOOC?
