@msmoto i cant figure out what the round thing is in front of the model, is it a reflector ? and if so where does the light come from that it reflects onto her ?
Yes, this is a reflector. The source is to the pianist's left, with cardboard "barn doors" to control the light so it falls only on the reflector and not on the pianist. This is about the only way to get good light on the face of the pianist. I tried three setups before deciding on this one as the best for the fontal shots.
Really nice race shot, bland. The subject separation is great and the action is perfect, however it seems like its color could be a bit more lively. SOOC?
Thanks and your suggestion about the color is well noted. That's one of the reasons I post my pictures is to learn from others on improving my photos. Your style and Mikep's style is something I'm trying to dial in on, so keep your suggestions coming.
its called "take loads of pictures and eventually get a good one". but thanks
I was looking through your flickr this morning and your composition along with your exposure usage is an art form. Good stuff, don't be so dang modest! B-)
Hi everyone. Well I haven't had much time with my D7100 today. But I managed to get a few pictures off today. Here's one from my daughters horse riding stables. I'm really not used to the camera yet, so any comments or advice will be greatly appreciated.
Something a little different from me, from my older pictures. A rather large Water Monitor Lizard I was quite shocked to see roaming around Lumphini Park in Bangkok.

@........Postman.........Great shot of an amazing reptile; Indian Water Monitor; Varanus Salvatore (if you speak Latin) when I was in my early 30's, I had one for several years; most ravenous eater of any reptile I ever had; I had to maintain a white mouse "colony" in my shed to keep the thing fed. He would go through two dozen mice in less than 10 minutes. It's hard to judge size from the photo, but that one looks like maybe about 36 inches; about the size of the one I had when I first got him; he ate so much he grew about 12 inches in the two years I had him.
@ pippigurl........That's a lovely picture, and that's cleanest, prettiest working boat I've seen in a while; BTW, what port is that in ?
On vacation...visited Carlsbad Caverns today. Threw my old 10.5 fisheye on the D800 to capture this image in The Big Room. Obviously, like so many beautiful places, photos are SOOOO fun to take and rarely show the beauty of the place. As for so many: Best viewed on dark background (Flickr)

@MikeFrewer- I do not know your level of experience , please I mean no disrespect. I would have upped the ISO a bit, say to 400 or 600. This would allow for a couple of stops down and faster shutter speed. I would have tried the other side of the horse where the light seems better.
