Thanks for everyone's comments on my Osprey yesterday. Flickr decided to "explore" it. This shot was very popular on my facebook page yesterday.. I like to think of it as a the angel of death for a fish...
@CBG guess I need a shorter lens for my ospreys. At 45 feet and 500mm The Ospreys tend to over-stuff the frame. I never think to zoom out
Another shot from yesterday's flooding. This is from the downtown Naperville Riverwalk. Normally you can stroll easily under this bridge on the walking path that runs along the river. Also the trees to the left of the bridge sit on what is normally an island that sits up a foot or two out of the normal water flow. A couple days ago I got a few snaps of some geese that were nesting on that island . . . . .

@Coastalconn, I have the same probem, too busy rying to get the shot, and forgetting that I have a zoom on the camera. One of the hazards of shooting birds in flight. Nevertheless, it is still a magnificant shot and congrats on having Flickr "Explore" it.
I had kept bumping my dial and changing my shutter speed from 1/1000 to 1/320 Hard to freeze a F1 car with 1/320! I hope to fare better tomorrow.
Nice shot! Shooting that shot at 1/320 is going to be pretty tough. There's nothing at all wrong with shooting that shot at 1/1000 or 1/800. So many try to get the tire spin motion by shooting at 1/400 or slower but it comes at a price if there's not perfect sunlight shining directly on the car's side you're shooting at. You did really good because the sun was shining on the other side of the car.
Good luck tomorrow and look forward to seeing you pictures!
@dredden can't wait to see more! No reason to be frustrated, mate. You always live and learn!
Great shot of Paul di resta. I'm not good with the corners at Sakhir circuit.. But looks like a slow corner! Tyres have a bit of blur and driver helmet is sharp. Good going!
Have a blast at the circuit on Saturday and look forward to seeing more!
Hi all. Long-time lurker who is constantly amazed by the PAD shares. I'm not playing in the same league as most of what I've seen, but am trying to up my game. This is my first attempt at posting, so I hope it works.
I took this at Disney last year. The (not so) little guy loved playing with the bowl that he's wearing as a hat. Unfortunately, I never got a shot that included it as a hat and also showed his face. This is as close as I got. Also, I was still quite scared to take my D7000 of Auto (which I still am, a bit ), and hadn't learned the importance of setting auto-ISO, so it's not close to technically perfect. But I think it's pretty neat. I hope to post a post-processed version later this weekend, as I have been trying to learn Aperture and think this can benefit both from cropping and some dodging of the ape's face.
I look forward to continuing to learn from you all, and hope you like whatever I end up sharing.
@PB_PM, @bland, @Scuderia1- Thank you for the encouragement. I am just after turn 1 in the University 1 stands. I almost got wopped in the head with some Canon lens from the guy behind me. They are coming down from the last turn then the finish line straight 200+mph to make this sharp hairpin turn. So the turn is pretty slow (30-40mph) then rocket off to turn 2. I will pay more attention to my technique settings today. I'll have to upload some videos on my Youtube and post some links. Thanks again guys! Another technique note: I am using AF-C On the center cell with Release Continuous High. Should I try the 3D?

The structure is covered by pinched steel sheets which makes them transparent and massively at the same time. Also, the blue/orange combination is one of my favorites. Here it's in very large
NO!!!! I've tried using that 3D Tracking countless times and it's worthless shooting motorsports. AF-C is good and for some reason I always get better results with the single point auto focus but any of the auto focus patterns will work.
Also, go to your Focus Tracking With Lock On and turn it to OFF. It's in your Autofocus menu just under the AF-S and AF-C Priority Selection. Someone on here suggested for me to do that and it's made a huge difference.

Everyone has to start somewhere; the problem often is that some folk just never start. You did, so good on ya!
Thanks again guys!
