The mount is warped (according to Nikon), and from time to time the AF-S motor makes an awful noise like fingernails being dragged across a backboard. Obviously the latter issue makes it less than suitable for bird shooting!
If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.

@Meinrad : Thanks That was the last day the snow was around, it's all melted now.
What happened to your 300mm, PB_PM?

Any chance that's the AF-S motor on it's way out? I keep hearing horror stories of AF-S 17-35. 28-70, 80-200, and 300/4s squealing and whining, then outright failing not soon after.
For today. I might make it a point to try shoot a month in B&W, should I?
@ZSChow I don't think it was dieing, it's been squealing for well over a year now. It only seems to happen after I haven't used the lens for a while. In fact it started after I had the body repaired by Nikon 2011, due to a drop. Makes me think some dust got into the focusing gears when they were fixing it.

^^ Early last year I ordered a Nikkor 300mm f/4 from B&H and I did enjoy it for a couple of weeks but it squealed during autofocus enough to cause me to return it. Maybe it sat on the shelf too long. I just was afraid of dealing with an issue a year later.
Not been around for a while and only lookes at this last page, but what a great set of shots. All on this page are good but the ones that stand out for me are.
Golf - A great study, love the verticals and the textures Gab - Nice piece of fine art RX4Photo - hmmm, possibly one of the most stunning portraits I have seen in a long time, that deserves to be seen msmoto - great colours and PP (if indeed it has been processed?
Here's my shot for today- one of my favorite shots I took during this vacation. Too bad some of the heat and exhaust from the jet obscured the top of the shot. I still think it's cool.
@OnTheRopes Thanks for the kind words. Your pic is a very nice perspective as well. The B&W is well done. @Rx4Photo: Outstanding shot. @Msmoto: What a great place to visit. Amazing colors..thx for sharing. @hammers71: Nice kitty :P @NSXTypeR: What a view...woohoo.

Thank you Golf, OnTheRopes, and all visits to my Flicker page. I'm trying to do a little more portraiture and practice some of the techniques that I've read so much about.

@ZSChow: nice capture of the bleakness of a harvested field.
On to more winter here, too, with a train at a level crossing:
