Yeti, your whole Death Valley set is terrific. D90 | 24-70 | 24mm | f/16 | 1/320s | ISO 400 Used Viveza to create control points all along the rock to reduce the shadows and add structure and warmth.
@ Rifqi, that's a really nice portrait of your wife. I've been trying not to spend more money but I'm feeling the pull of a Lastolite trigrip reflector as well. Really like the subtle glow and shadowing in the neck and chin areas.
Rx4Photo, I can definitely recommend it, it's probably the most versatile modifier I have. I'm using the 8 in 1 variety and if you have someone with two hands nearby you get a very portable soft light. Just stick a flash in one hand and the trigrip in the other and use it as a shoot through. Or you pull on whatever reflective surface fits your needs. I've also been using the black surface lately to keep one side of my subject from getting fill light from the wall. Lots of uses.
allankulitz, it's a Lastolite Ezybox II large octa with a Lastolite Trigrip below the frame for fill. I was planning to get an Apollo orb but I came over some unexpected money (I'm a shady character) and decided to go for the Lastolite instead. Lastolite is in general quite expensive but I've kind of fallen in love with the quiality of their products. I like things that I know will last.
Wow! Thats good to know you got the quality equipments you need! I can see its worth the price coz you are making really great images!! inspires me to explore more! thank you Sir!
I saw the Hawk I heard the rabbit cry. I spent 30 minutes about 10 feet away from this hawk. It was amazing to watch the poor bunny get ripped apart... There are more on my flickr page if you want more...
@Msmoto- That would make a terrific promo shot for Acura. Would make me want to go out and buy an Acura, but then I'd have to put off buying more camera gear for a while . . . :O
@Coastalconn- terrific series of shots. love the detail you were able to capture.

You'd have to be more famous than Jay Leno to get that Acura first!

Wow, excellent shot! Always look forward to your birding photos.
On a side note, while I was in class a hawk chased a pigeon that smacked stupidly into a window pane. The pigeon was stunned and the hawk was about to make the kill when a bystander shooed away the hawk. I don't understand it when people try to intervene in such ways. The pigeon doesn't have any priority over the hawk and vice versa. In nature everything is equal.
@darkslide: Very nice shots these past few days...keep them coming. @Rifqi: You should do a video of your setup in taking portrait shots. Great stuff @rschnaible: I can feel the cold in the shot...thx for sharing. @Juergen: Ok now that has to hurt! You will never see me doing that...good God! @Msmoto: Nice composition. The car is not bad too...lol! @Coastalconn: As always...perfect timing. Now you got me hungry :P
While working with the RAW file, I'm blown away by the dynamic range of the D4...the amount of information captured by the sensor in conjunction with the 14-24 shot wide open is just Awesome.

Death Valley adventure continues! A nearly full moon and partly cloudy skies made for some excellent night photography. Here at Badwater, the lowest point in North America, salt encrusted polygons nearly glow under the moon. The light on the horizon may be from Baker or Barstow, about 100 miles to the south.
vinopaul22: Great clarity and it demonstrates you don't really need the latest, greatest and most expensive gear to produce a great photo. I like to see that demonstrated on PAD so people don't think you need a D4 or D800 to post.
@donaldejose We all know that...your point is mute. The PAD soul purpose is to share photo's regardless of the gear used. Targeting those that own a specific gear has no place in this part of the forum. Keep such conversations as it relates to topic on other parts of our forum. Thank you.

Following up on Msmoto's comment about creating more isolation of the subject from the background in my basketball shots here is one shot at 200mm and f3.2.
D800, 80-200 f2.8 shot at 200 and 3.2, 1/500th sec, ISO-5000.
And I still have my D70 which I pull out from time to time but it wouldn't be able to take this shot!
I rented a Fuji X-E1 and a couple lenses over a long weekend in December. The purpose was to evaluate its usefulness for the Appalachian Trail, in lieu of my D800. While the image quality was nice, I missed the interface of the D800. I feel I would miss / turn down more photo opportunities with the more sluggish controls of the mirrorless camera, versus my comfort with the D800's controls allowing me to mindlessly manipulate any settings. While the high ISO looked pretty nice, I would definitely miss the low ISO, and definitely miss the image stabilization of my 16-35mm f/4 VR or 24-70mm f/2.8 VC (not sure which one of those I will take yet). It would save me a few pounds of kit, but heck, I'll bring the D800. I think it will be worth the extra weight. My full pack will be running around 35 pounds once I finalize it, methinks.
