I just discovered this site and decided to join up. What got me was the 'PHOTO-A-DAY'. Incredible stuff. I'm going to post a pic before I lose the nerve.
Film baby here. Transparencies, actually. I learned on a Zeiss Contina, moved on to a Nikkormat FTN, then a Canon AT-1 and drooled over my wife's Nikon F. I still cry when I look at the boxed up darkroom equipment in the garage; twenty-five years later. I switched to one of those P&S things when we started to travel a lot and had no time for the artsy, fartsy. But I still got some decent shots. That's when I learned that it ain't the camera in front of the eye, it's the eye behind the camera.
Then my kiddo bought a used D3000 for next to nothing and promptly got lost in all the options. I 'aquired' said camera and all heck broke loose. I just had to dig up all my old film equipment, and memories, and do a side by side compare. Oops. I have a lot of film stuff to re-learn. And even more how-to with digital. White balance? ISO? What happened to ASA? Can I trust Auto-focus? Are split-prism focusing screens any good?
Now I know how my mother felt when I migrated her ailing machine to Linux. I told her, a PC is a PC, regardless if it is Mac, Windows or Linux, when all you want is the web, email, and the like. She's 78 and teaches the other seniors how to do PC stuff, so maybe there is hope for me.
I stumbled across this site by a simple google search and kept coming back to see what the PAD has to offer. I am interested to see what other people are shooting and what they are using to get the shot. Literally, a ton of great ideas from the PAD. I am an avid photographer who purchased a Canon film camera about 10 years ago and have been hooked on photography since. I purchased a Sony A550 (fantastic beginners camera, by the way) to learn digital on. I eventually made the move to a Canon 5D Mark II, but never fell in love with it. Recently, I purchased a Nikon D800 and absolutely love it. I enjoy shooting anything outdoors and have taken some candids and senior photos along the way. I am glad to be here!!!
Hi all ! I didn't know until this afternoon that PAD was up again ...... I guess I missed quite a lot of the action ... Caught a glimpse of everyone's shots - amazing work as always !! By the way, I'm Avadhesh Malik ...... I work as a doctor with the Indian Army , but nature is my first love Good to see you all !
Hi again. I was an old forum member with the same name, minus the underscore. Good to be back.
Hello again then and welcome back!
Hello all, I joined this forum board to contribute to some of the discussions I have been reading lately. I am a pro level photographer who spends most of my time shooting, and not enough on the web as I need to. Here to share, discuss and help.
Nice to have you on board!

There are lot of uncertainties in this world, but one thing you can always count on is that the PAD is up! I look forward to your photos!
Hello all. Long time reader of NR. Long time Nikon user. Reaching out to the community today for some advice. Was shooting video w a D800 of a plane landing. I was in rhe center of the runway and far from where the plane would stop. Well, things didnt go as planned and now my carbon fiber RRS tripod, D800, and 70-200 are in about 6 pieces. (Unusual story and I'm sure you have more questions like "why???". Unfortunately I can't reveal any more about the situation.) The camera was running when the plane hit the tripod. The event caused the body to rip from the lens and all had about a 5 foot fall to a dirt landing. Camera lost power during the event and did not store the video to card. Camera will not power up now. I'm hoping the video is still in the buffer and that someone, either Nikon or a third party, can carefully extract it. Any ideas? Thanks,.
Hi all. I've been reading NR for quite a while, and posting a comment now and then. When reading rumors doesn't take ll my time, I shoot with a D300 that I've borrowed from a friend. I bought my own 70-200/f2.8, and I mainly focus :-) on fellow runners, and people.doing all sorts of athletics. Well, lots of other stuff, too, actually. Now, I want my own camera, but since there are no news or rumors on a D400, I thought that if I joined the club, then maybe something would happen. Is this where all the rumors are hidden? - Martin
Hey Everyone! I am pretty new to photography, but I have always been captivated by it. I got into Photography through my dad who used to own a camera shop over 12 years ago. I found some old lenses that are manual, but still work perfectly. I wanted to utilize these lens in some ways and started with my first Camera D3200. I hope through NR, I can learn new techniques, and become a better photographer!
@K_Point: Welcome to NR. Please have a look around some of the many topic we have covered. Should you have a specific question please let us know and we will be more than happy to assist.
Cheers....

I have been absent from the forum for a while. But I still stop in from time to time now that I am back in the states. There are quite few new members here so I thought I would re-introduce my self. I started in film with a Mamiya NC1000. I love photography and this great site inspires me every time I visit. I was not able to say before while I was overseas that I am serving as a Corpsman in the Navy, specialized in the radiology field. My duties of late have kept me from photography and the forum. I look forward to see your comments and your work on the PAD. As always, its good to "see" everyone again! @Golf007sd- Congratulations on your promotion to Moderator
Hello all! I joined the old forum just before they switched to the new one. Just for an intro I'm Brad from Portland, Maine and I'm in the process of trying to start my own photography company on the side. I currently only have a D7000 with the 18-105mm kit lens, and a 35mm f/1.8 lens. I have done photography as a hobby for about 2 years now and really started to get more into it this year! I don't consider myself a professional by any means but hope to get to that level eventually. I am always eager to learn new techniques and how to improve my abilities!
