    Welcome @primeguy to NRF.

Recommend you do some reading in the D600/D610 forum then come on over to the D750 forum. There are tons of information on the D610 and D750. I have had two hands on experiences with the D750 and it's a huge improvement over the D610 in low lighting. Anyway, copy your message and paste it into the D750 or D600/D610 forums and tell us what type of shooting you do and what your budget is for lens or DSLR+ lens. We are always willing to help out members...especially if it's with spending "their" money. :D

Normally the Admins welcome new members but I saw your comment on ChicagoLand. Lived in Lake Villa near Gurney for 2 years. Now just outside Madison.

Hi all - I'm a relative newbie to digital after shooting film as a younger person. Life happened, moved away from photography for a couple of decades; man, the game has changed a bit eh? I've rekindled my love of the art, and have been lurking for a while reading all the great advice in this forum. Living in the midwest US, wildlife and landscape are my focus, with an emphasis on fine art. Look forward to your advice, and hope I have some to offer as well. Cheers!

Welcome to NRF. Many of us have been in the same situation….. film (2 Nikon F bodies from the 1960's) and now have discovered the wonderful potential in digital imaging.

    Hi everyone,
I've been monitoring the NR rumors news and forums for a few years now, but finally decided to bite the bullet and make an account, because I really enjoy reading everyone's opinions and feel I can contribute in my own way. I started digital photography in 2002 with a Canon PowerShot S100 Digital ELPH. My introduction into the world of DSLRs began with the Nikon D70s and a kit 18-70mm in 2006. After that I added some lenses here and there and upgraded in 2010 to a D7000. I enjoy all photography types except portraits, I think I just get too worried that the results wouldn't be "perfect". Did I mention I can be a bit of a perfectionist sometimes? Anyway, I will be upgrading again sometime in the near future (no later than May 2015). I am undecided as to what upgrade path I want to take at this time, whether it be DX (7200, 400, etc.) or FX (750 or 810), but look forward to whatever Nikon throws our way.

I look forward to chatting with many of you soon.

My name is Victor Collins. I have been observing for a year or more and within the last two months started posting some photos. I started in the early 70's with Nikon 35mm camera film and moved to Medium format and then to large format. Until the D800 came out I was shooting mostly medium and large format. I still shoot film but digital is taking much more of my time. I have been impressed by the outstanding photos and the willingness of everyone to share the experience and expertise. I have a lot to learn but look forward to the challenge. My interest have been landscapes and flowers. I am considering moving into portraits and some architecture shots. I live in North Carolina. My time to shoot has been limited but I hope to get out more in the coming year. Thank you to all for the comments on my posts. This is the best blogs and honored to associated with such a great group of people.

    Sincerely,
    Victor

Hello from very deep South Texas. I teach/write at a Univ of Texas component school down here. I've been lurking this board and a few others for about a year and decided to jump in. Been dabbling in photography for about 45 years and just recently took the DSLR plunge. Up til now I've had mostly Minolta slrs, still have 2 SRT bodies, an X-570, 7 or 8 lenses, an early 1950s Rolliecord, and an assortment of point and shoots.

My first DSLR is a D5100 with the 18-55 kit lens. I've since picked up a 50-1.4 and a 70-300 and am waiting for the right price on a 60 macro and maybe an 85-1.8. So far I've been recreating some of the techniques I learned in the film world on the 5100 to sort out the similarities and differences and learn a little about using Lightroom.. The equipment and software are impressive. I'm something of a gearhead and lately have been dealing with an attack of GAS. At the moment, I am going back and forth between a higher end DX (7100), picking up a D750 and using the 5100 for crop mode stuff or waiting for the phantom 72/73/7400. In the meantime, the plan is to soak up some more of the board's wisdom. Thanks for sharing.

A little about where I'm at now:
My name is John Lunsford. I live in Cumming, GA (just north of Atlanta). I posted some on the old forum but have just been lurking since the switch to the new one. I plan on posting on the PAD thread daily from now on (need something to keep me moving on getting through all of the photos that I have taken the past few years). I just quit my desk job last week (officially quit but don't think I would have seen another paycheck anyway with the way the business was headed). So, after some brief job searching and getting that really depressing feeling all over again that comes from job searches, I decided to do what I've really wanted to do for a while and dive head first into commercial photography. I've been a part time assistant for a commercial photographer before, shot some portraits for friends for pay, and done some photo booths and videos at weddings for pay. So, it's not like I'm a complete amateur (and I do have a business degree), but I'm sure this is going to be quite a learning experience over the next few months (I'll be sure to keep y'all updated with my photos on PAD).

A little about how I got into digital photography:
I have always been artistic. My earliest memories of art are when I got in trouble with my parents when I was very young for coloring on the walls (kind of ironic that now people are going to be paying me to put art on the walls of their buildings and websites). I had wanted a DSLR since taking a photography class my senior year of high school. Taking pictures on 35mm film and playing in the darkroom was fun, but I'm lazy and I wanted a camera that could do it all instantly (that was before I knew how much time I would spend in Lightroom and Photoshop). Fast forward through 6 years of college, and I wanted one even more. A couple of friends had Nikons and one of them told me about Nikon Rumors where there were rumors that a replacement for the D90 that I was looking at was coming soon. So, wanting the latest and greatest camera that I could possibly spend all of my money on, I start browsing the home page of Nikon Rumors daily in the late summer of 2010. Sure enough, the D7000 shows up, and it is all I could want and then some. I buy it in Dec of 2010 and put about 60,000 shots on it learning the ins and outs of digital photography. In the spring of this year, the D7000 made its way onto eBay as I cashed in everything I had to purchase its big brother the D800E off of a member on a local Facebook photography group. Now I think the D800E needs a brother or sister or both (we'll see once the D800E starts paying the rent).

    Hello!
I'm from Canada, currently living in Winnipeg (aka 'Winterpeg' due to our obscene winters). I'm 23, started pursuing photography as a hobby about 2 1/2 years ago. It has opened up a range of fun and exciting opportunities from shooting some engagement photos for my sister and her fiancé to shooting promotional photos for a friend's event which now draws 400+ people to their bi-monthly meetings.

Photography as been very helpful through some tough times in my life. Giving me the chance to create for myself, and for the benefit of others. I'm always looking for ways that I can improve myself and quite often find myself looking through online forums, and have found the community here to be very sharing and knowledgeable. Hopefully I can contribute in some way (even though I often feel like I don't actually know anything lol) as I continue to learn from you guys.

I'm currently using a Nikon D7000, with a small collection of lenses and a few film cameras.

    Cheers!
