wells you all figured i am new to this site, figured it would be a good idea to start asking questions rather then just reading answers. which i have been for a couple years. have to say you all have been very informative an have already helped me out a lot, so thx-you ! I have been shooting pics an vid for over 25 years, mostly action, snowboarding, snowmobiling, sk8boarding, soccer, list goes on, an landscapes. kinda goes with being out there in the mtns etc. at the moment my main gig is shooting sled tours, not as easy as one might think. the new machines that are available to the public make access fast, an bad riders good ones. so keeping track of 8-10 people plus the guides on 165hp+ sleds threw the mtns an not missing an opportunity take a shoot is well interesting. people pay good money for these tours an even more to have me there to document their day. so fumbling round changing lens isn't an option. by the time id change lenses the crew has already moved on. so in order to get close up shots to long distance shots .. requires some kit, an a strong back ! an not to forget the elements, an fatigue that goes with backcountry sledding while having to take clear shots handheld. with no editing. so all cropping is done optically on the mtn. yeah no time for editing.... took along time to get my shooting to the 80% usable photos from a day of shooting. in the back pack i carry , 3 bodies , d800, d610, d7100. usually. the d7100 will be mounted to the sig 150-500(not happy with this lens, is big an fragile, but 750 to 900 is hard to find at that price point). d800 being slower i mount the 14-24, 2.8 nikon for close in. the 610 i mount the 70-200 2.8 nikon. an have a 50mm 1.8 prime an sigma 20-70 2.8 in the pack, with all the appropriate avalanche gear in there as well. Fun times! so i guess i introduced myself , have fun shooting !
My name's Edward, I'm 27, from the UK and recently bought a D3300. This was my first proper camera, before that I'd just taken photos on my iPhone so this stuff is all pretty new to me.
I have a really basic question if I may - I'm trying to use continuous shooting mode but I can't for the life of me figure out how it works. I've clicked on the button at the bottom left of the screen and selected continuous shooting mode but then when I press the release button it only takes one photo. I'm sure there's a really simple solution to this but I haven't been able to work it out hence my coming on here.
My name is Ed (I realize the person above me is also named Ed), I'm 32 y.o. and from the Philadelphia area. I have been shooting with a DSLR for several years now. I started with a film camera when I was around 10-12 and then put the hobby down for many years (parents separated and no one wanted to pay for it). Luckily as an adult, I can now indulge in my own hobbies and buy my own toys.
I'm currently shooting with a D800, which I'm debating on selling/trading for a D4S or D810. Aside from the normal family/friend functions, I take a TON of enjoyment out of BIF and wildlife photography. I also volunteer my photography services to a local dog rescue group. Over the past few years, I have been hired to be the second shooter for a few weddings and have done some family portraits. I'm hoping to save that money for my next big purchase of a lens (hoping for a 500mm F4, either Nikon or the rumored Sigma). Until then, I've been making do with my 300mm 2.8 with TC20 which I've had some ok success (great keepers and awful tossers). With the work I've done with the dog rescue, I've fallen back in love with portraiture and using my 85mm 1.4/70-200mm 2.8.
The reason why I've decided to join today is not only to be able to ask questions, but also discuss my personal thoughts on this wonderful hobby. This is my coy way of also saying, my wife stares back at me like I'm crazy when I talk about ISO's and f-stops. Anyways moving forward, I hope to interact and learn from all of you.
Hi , I am Sorin (original from Romania ) from Truro, Cornwall , United Kingdom I been watching this site and forum for long time and last night I thought that I must join the crowd I am new to digital photography thanks to my partner , she introduce me to it and now I just can not get enough ! I managed to save some money and by myself most of nikon top end lens's and body's Anyway just want to say Hi to all of you and please excuse my English , I do intend to make mistakes most of the time I love landscape photography and wildlife !
If you force yourself to go outside, something wonderful always happens!
I haven't formally introduced myself but I have been active on the forums for a few months. I currently live in Canada and I am finishing my Ph.D. in neuroscience. My research focuses on neurological and psychiatric disorders and the changes in the brain associated with them. I do quite a bit of imaging of brain cells and their processes (i.e., connections). Therefore I spend lots of time on our microscope for imaging and this spurred my interested in other imaging techniques such as photography.I started with a nice D5100 kit to learn the ropes. Over the past 3 years I transitioned to FX glass and the D800.
I really enjoy macro photography (probably due to my extensive experience with imaging on microscopes). However, I also really enjoy doing astrophotography, as the images are quite beautiful and I find it peaceful to relax over a clear evening to let my mind relax. I'm also from a northern province (just like a state) of Canada, so I often go to my hometown where I have access to areas with amazing opportunities to photograph wildlife. There is a ton of wild deer, moose, geese, elk, bears, eagles, birds in flight, etc. Really amazing stuff.
Recently, friends and family urged me to get into portraits (lots of requests and friends getting married). I find it to be a totally different experience. I've went from the spontaneity of insects & wildlife to having to direct people how to pose. I'm finding it to have a steep learning curve to instruct your subjects how to pose (i.e., it's much more than point and shoot), but it is also very rewarding to get feedback from the person you are photographing.
Lastly, I wanted to sincerely thank many members of the NR forums for the help and advice I've received from them so far (i.e., Msmoto, Pitchblack, Golf007sd, Coastalconn etc). Happy shooting
If I may speak on behalf of the others: the pleasure is all ours. We all look forward in sharing our personal knowledge with those that interact on NRF.
Cheers....

Hi all, I am a Professional Wedding, Events and Portrait Photographer in the Washington DC Area. I Just recently became a Pro and shot my first event with a D5100 which was actually a Christmas gift. Since then I have shot primarily with a D7100 and Preordered a D810. As for my Lenses I have a NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR that I use for pleasure, a Nikkor 17-55mm f2.8 DX and A Sigma 50mm f1.4 Prime that I use for events and weddings. I want every lens out there but am slowly working my way up. When I'm not shooting I work full time in Healthcare IT but maybe one day I can dedicate all my time to Photography. Here is my website with some of the stuff I've done if you are interested. My Website
Welcome Kayneezy. Enjoyed looking at the photos on your web site. Wedding photography is such a tough event. One you master the D810, congrats for buying such a great camera, make it your primary camera for weddings with the D7100 as your back up or use with another lens. Looking forward to seeing your work on PAD.

Aloha to all. I have been following NRF for a while but never joined til I saw the post regarding Hawaii and though that I would respond. I live on Oahu (main island) and have upgraded my D90 for a D800 about a year ago. Our group shoots sunrise every Saturday morning at various locations on Oahu with other shoots in between for sunsets and night outings. Hoping that I can somehow contribute!
Hi, everybody -- I'm Alexis, and I'm in Michigan. I'm a former newspaper copy editor turned SAHM turned ???. (Now divorced and trying to figure out what to do next!)
I got my first Nikon (a D3000) when my second was a baby and fell in love with photography. Now I've just moved up to a D810 and am slowly amassing my glass collection as well. I mostly enjoy nature and family photography but am hoping to do more landscape work in the future.
Welcome @Sanveann. You certainly don't have to go far to photograph some of the great scenery of Michigan. Welcome and be sure to drop by the PAD forum and leave one of your picture..once per day.

Hello All, I have just signed up to what appears to be an excellent website photographers of all levels. Hoping to get some good advice on various topics. First one being how do i view RAW files from my new D810? I just updated Photoshop and Lightroom but still no joy, it appears I have to wait until Adobe have added this camera format to their list? Can anyone shed any light on the subject....Thank's J
Kia Ora! Hi all. My name is Don from the land of the long white cloud (New Zealand). Been here reading the forums for quite some time but just got to signing up. Anyhow, a hobbyist here and mostly shooting my family (figuratively of course) . Recently got the D610 which is a jump from a D300s. Currently using a the kit 24-85mm AF-S as well as a AF 50mm f1.4D. As learning is a continuous process, I'm itching to get a lot of questions (with sense and sometimes stupid) answered.

Using Nikon d600, d800, and of course my old d90. Just got the new AW-1 and took it down some rivers in Montana and it worked FLAWLESSLY!
Unfortunately, my d600 took a tumble and the mounting ring is semi-dislodged. holy crap that was no fun. I wonder how much this is gonna cost me? On the bright side my eyes still work!
