Lest we think Nikon is the only Japanese camera company having financial woes due to the earthquake, yen, and restructuring:

    https://techcrunch.com/2016/11/01/sony-q2-2016/

Sony’s profit dropped 86 percent year-on-year as the strong performance of the Japanese Yen, fallout from the Kumamoto earthquake and company restructuring weighed on its Q2 2016 earnings.

The Japanese electronics giant posted a small $48 million (4.8 billion JPY) profit in its Q2 2016 financial period, down from $205 million last year. On the positive side, though, its mobile business again showed that it has stopped bleeding cash.

Sony makes decent cameras, but their phones are overpriced for what you get. The waterproofing is great, but a long of their stuff is more expensive than comparable hardware.

It's not surprising that they're losing money on the phone side.

My Experia Z5 Premium is the best phone I've ever had. Love it. I had the compact but the keyboard was too small so my wife now has that.

@heartyfisher - Those guys put an ad on NR a couple of weeks ago, which was (correctly) removed, I believe. The product looks cool, though, and reasonably priced. I don't know if there's a catch somewhere .... I just know that I don't have a radio trigger, so, well, I ordered the thing. We'll see if and when it turns up, and if it's any good. Damn, I have never had as little time for photography as I have now, and I have never had so many things queued up to learn and explore. It's hopeless.

Is that a film holder that you load bulk film into and place this into your 35mm film camera?

Nice Ironheart. I remember my Dad had one of those bulk film rewinders. Use to see these at garage sales.

I received an email from RRS...price hike. Nice justification. Here is the entire message:

    Note from Joe Johnson, Sr.
    Tripod and Head Price Increase

Effective 1 January 2017, the price of most tripods and tripod heads will increase 5-10%. This is the first price increase in over ten years on our market-leading products. During the same period the average price of a US car has increased 15% from $22,068 to $25,449, my barber has increased prices 3 times for a total of 25%, and the average price of a Big Mac in the US has increased 86% from $2.71 to $5.04.

This price increase allows us to continue striving for perfection in our products, innovating, and manufacturing to the highest quality in the USA. We hope the advanced notice will allow you, our highly valued customers, to better plan for your future investments.

Thank you all for your continued support,
    ====================================
As my Dad taught me many years ago....if you want quality you will have to pay for it.

Let me be among the first to wish everyone a Merry Christmas along with all those other holidays.

I am glad that RRS is doing this. If I want cheaper I can buy Gitzo. I have three RRS heads, two tripods and numerous accessories because RRS is the best. Too many companies (and people frankly) discount themselves because they are afraid to charge what they are worth and that leads to cost cutting.

I should disclose that I have two Gitzo tripods and they are very good - just not quite RRS.

I really love the RRS head on my Gitzo tripod. I have the focusing rail too and of course "L" brackets, lens plate, and the foot replacement for the 70-200mm. All quality equipment. The quality and engineering are just excellent.

Having come from industry your right about people cutting cost because they are afraid to charge what its really worth. Then the accountants get into the mix and cost cutting starts and quality slips. You got to appreciate what they do. I also like their customer service...very consistent and recommendations are solid.

Does anybody have any idea what will be in a D7300? What can be put in that we need (apart from sensor/AF improvement)?

    Always learning.
  • PhotobugPhotobug Posts: 5,751Member
Bet we will see the D7300 in the fall of 2017. Agree with you, change to the sensor, AF improvements and ?????
