Today I had the opportunity to talk to the Regional Nikon representative and we discussed the new 70-200 F2.8 FL E lens, replacement of the D7200 and D750.

His response that he has heard nothing on the replacement for the D7200. We will see the D750 replacement in the fall of 2017 or the first trade show in January 2018.

Wow, that's a little soon on the D750 no?

Oh well, no big deal for me, I was expecting a D7200 replacement soon, but until I shoot my D7000 into the ground there is no excuse for me to buy a new camera.

Are they on a 24 month cycle for replacements? The D750 was released in October 2014 I believe...so they are due for a replacement next year.

Nope, my D750 is 25 months old and they were fairly new when I got it.

@Photobug that would make it 36 months by your date. We shall see...

I got mine in November 2014, so it's two years old, just checked my inventory list. Nikon use to follow updates on bodies every 18 month then they went to 2 years and now it's when ever. My hunch is that the Regional representative is correct, fall of 2017 which would be 3 years.

I would love to see more focusing points like the D5 and D500. Spread them out more and it would be perfect.

What were refresh cycles in the days before digital? I think that you will see longer refresh cycles as digital technology matures.
  • IronheartIronheart Posts: 3,017Moderator
    F6 2004-Present
    F5 1996-2004
    F4 1988-1997
    F3 1980-2001 (very popular)
F2 1971-2000 (pry out of cold dead hands)
    F 1959-1973

Note, this is only the professional F series. There was also the FT and FM, and other consumer grade 35mm cameras.

I don't know, it might get shorter. I know it's apples and oranges, but the PS4 and XBox One both came out before 4K was a thing and they both had a mid model refresh. The PS3 basically went unchanged for 10 years, as did the PS2.

I think you might see significant changes in workflow- Nikon SnapBridge might need a more robust replacement for one as there is significant slowdown or less gains to be had in raw imaging advances. Maybe they might even go mirrorless, who knows?

I can see why they thought that Snapbridge was worth a new model number. But I doubt that further advances will even warrant an "S". They will just be firmware upgrades. However, I do have no doubt that Snapbridge will continue to evolve and will eventually become quite good - even if it is a poorly made bridge and not very snappy at the moment (Thom - great quote).

Ah ok, thanks. I see my SIG in the post, but then how can I add new products to the list?

Nothing important, just my Phantom 3 Professional, and Lume Cubes... ;-)

    I have a chance to buy a used Nikkor 200mm Micro f/4 ED-IF lens. $1000. Good deal?
  • NSXTypeRNSXTypeR Posts: 2,293Member
Sounds like a good deal, is this a reputable dealer? Any dust, mold, damage?

To be on the safe side though, if it's too good to be true, it probably is.

I'm always surprised at how long a DSLR battery lasts. I remember my D40 used to last 1,000+ shots because I didn't have any VR lenses.

I mean, even my EN-EL15 for my D7000 lasts more than 1,000 shots, possibly even closer to 2,000. It's even more surprising because my phone has a 2,700 mAh battery, and the EN-EL15 has a 1900 mAh battery. Ok fine, the biggest battery draw for a phone is the data connection, but even then, the best my phone can last is about a day and a half. I sometimes go a full half year or more and I have come back to a basically full DSLR battery.

That's one major reason that would keep me from getting a mirrorless camera.

To me, battery life isn't a hindrance to taking good pictures, it's just an annoyance you have to deal with (much like no U1, U2, etc is an annoyance). Having your ability to compose the shot as you'd like it composed because of highly centralized focus points is a hindrance to good picture taking. I'll trade a couple of batteries in my pocket for a wider spread of focus points ANY day.

    First world problems I guess.

Battery life unless it's absolutely dreadful is certainly isn't a big limiting factor, but there's a certain peace of mind to know that you're not going to run out of battery at some point within the next hour.

Ever drive a vehicle with a broken gas gauge? It's like that.

It's most likely not going to stop you from getting to your destination either, but range anxiety sucks.
