Auww @dissent and to backup the LR catalog is so easy. I make one when I close once a day (you can choose yes or no) and copy that .ZIP file to my free 7gb Dropbox, NAS and drive, keeping the last 3 backups. Unpack the correct .ZIP file and you are good to go again.

Yeah, I may increase the backup frequency. I had a week old backup that I loaded up and seems to work fine.

And now I can't get flickr to open up. Gee, I'm snakebit!

I have an old work shop next to my house that I think I'm going to try to convert into a photo studio.

Absolutely each hobby in its own room. A 16x16 new workshop out back is much cheaper than a divorce.

You did know in advance that taking this picture with a broken lens would result in the skull with a crack! :) o:)

Funny thing about that skull. I bought it at Disney World when I was about 8 or 10 at The Haunted Mansion. I totally forgot about it until I started cleaning out this old shop to turn it into a studio.

My whole house is my hobby....LOL And, when I work on cleaning out stuff... oh, shucks, that is not going to happen.

Re: photo studio... I will be getting a room back in my house from my kids who have just bought a new house, so, I may have to come up with some interesting studio shots....

Hope no one has ever had to deal with a stuck filter!

Some time ago i got cheated (.. yeah why do people do that ?) anyway i ended up with a 50mm F1.8D nikkor but the aperture wont close.

It looks like some how that little lever that closes the aperture wont budge (yes I have put some force on it but no go).. so I am stuck with F1.8 all the time. .. Now if it was a more expensive lens I would take it to nikon and have that fixed .. but just having it evaluated for fixing it would cost more than the lens( or getting a replacement.) So am i stuck with this as a paperweight? is there a way/instructions where I could fix it myself? any ideas ? :-(

I had that happen too. The issue was that lever got a bit bent and it has to be close to perfect. I took some hemostats and bent it back out until it worked.

My so far crazy thing of the day.

I still have one of my D7000's but after 60k pix I got the dreaded ERR and I could see the shutter was closed over the sensor. My other D7000 had the same thing (but after 170,000+ shots and it needed a new shutter.

So I just packed away this D7000 as it wasn't worth fixing. I saw it last night and got a wild hair up my biscuit maker and took it out. I figured it was gone anyone so I started messing with it. Of course, I had to poke the shutter lol.. which looked bent and was catching on the screws so the calvin in me just had to touch and feel the sensor just because it felt naughty lol.

So I touch it and it's like paper kinda and was bowed out so I pushed it back in but it popped back out. So I gave it the 1 finger salute and pushed the shutter button one last time... and oh crap it worked :o , tried it again and woked again but some material fell out... oops.... I pulled that out but still worked... wtf! Stuck a sd card in and everything worked. I know it wont last long but still interesting :p might have to go try it today.

Ouch, I got the ERR message on my D40 a while back when I was vacationing in Hong Kong... literally the day after I picked it up from Nikon HK for a sensor cleaning. I was so pissed off.

God speed old Nikon D7000! My copy of the D7000 still works well.

Thanks! I don't expect it to be a long life but was just more interesting than anything. I might go try and shoot some eagle today with it but that af is going to be brutal now.

Quick question- does anyone use micro SD cards with a SD card adapter? Any downsides to that method other than another possible point of failure? Samsung microSD cards have been very cheap lately.

I’ve used the Samsung micro SD cards w/ adapter. I had a problem with one - it was very cheap on eBay and I think it was a fake. Didn’t work at all - I didn’t lose any images, but I had to make an emergency trip to wal mart for a replacement. The other two I used were fine.

I have used the microsd + adapter in my camera sometimes.. no issues when I did but that only one sample point.

Hopefully your D7000 is still chugging along well. I just took mine to South Korea and it was brutally cold. Around -10 C for many days there.
