January 28th - After a long period of dancing in West Virginia and Virginia and not hiking at all, I went on a brief loop through New England to dance and hike. I visited Rhode Island to hang out with fellow 2013 hikers Coffee Pot (center) and Roosta (right).

A beauty Squamish. Mine for today. Try as I might, I couldn't get this cardinal into a more wide open spot, so we're left with a slight artifact. D800 | 300mm + TC20 | f/5.6 | 1/1000s | ISO 640

January 30th - In spite of some snow, I decided to hike southbound from Dalton, MA. There are three paved road crossings in the first 10 miles, so I figured if the snow was too deep I could call it quits without having to turn back to town. I still mean to complete a second hike after all, and if I stop and turn back at some odd point that isn't a road that makes it a rather useless hike for those purposes.
The trailhead south out of Dalton crosses a pair of railroad tracks, and while I was packing my bag a freight train came through on the far track. I decided to get a self-portrait with the appearance of hitchhiking next to the train, and then I realized there was a second train approaching on the other track. I had to wait a while before I started hiking.
Finally got a good outing since last oct. The sky have been amazing recently. As much as i would like to go out, unfortunately i can only go on sunday. Still better than nothing
Here's a similar shot to my last one, but this one I actually used some sharpening and did my normal processing.. Tamron 150-600 @600mm F8 1/1250th, ISO 560. I'll post some thoughts in the thread
Planning a biketrip, looked at what I took pictures of last year and found one I hadn't processed yet. Suleskarvegen is a road that is not open during the winter, due to way too much snow. Last year I drove up there with my bike, but I was too late in season, hardly saw any snow and didn't see any of the wild reindeer that lives there (but that would be very lucky if I did...) This is the route, I start from E on the map and the part of the road that is special is between B and C. I learned that this route was called the best MC route in Norway and I really understood why. It took me 7 1/2 hours from when I left my house until I got back, but I did stop quite a lot for breaks and photos.
