Does anyone know if CF cards will be updated in the future or will they die and everything will go SD cards?

Unless... XQD cards were supposed to be the replacement for CF.

And if XQD cards were so awesome... how come no one is using it? It would make sense to make a D800s or a D4s replacement with dual XQD cards.

Something that occurred to me today - if the wide end of small sensor cameras (especially) gives problems because of the obtuse angle of the incoming light at the edges of the sensor, why don't they make the sensors slightly curved? Maybe a new range of cameras that make new lenses necessary would be a good time for that.

I can obviously see that the manufacturing would be a problem, but then I am sure it isn't insurmountable and it would sort out edge sharpness due to curvature of field too.
Offset micro lenses are way cheaper to implement, and mean that every lens already made will work. (Leica uses them for this reason) A curved sensor would require a precisely curved focal plane from the lens as well. Sounds great if you want to buy all new lenses.

    See this thread:
    http://forum.nikonrumors.com/discussion/2412/new-sandisk-extreme-pro-uhs-2-rated-250mbs/

CF is pretty dead. XQD could be the replacement, but there seems to be a dearth of support
UHS-II (SD) generation 1 is rated for 312 MB/s, but there is a generation 2 that will do 624 MB/s

    Just a thought ...

The (+1) (-1) did offer an interactive feel to the board. Not just on the PAD but also the threads with just text. Whenever I'd see those values above a written response I'd often read it to see if I could relate to or agreed with the response. Photos as well, I'd give the photo some extra attention to see if It moved me the same way as those who + or -1'd it. Now, that dynamic is lost. Shame.

Totally agree with your comments on the +1/-1. On PAD I only used +1 or no +1 comment but never -1. If some one really nailed a comment in the forums, I would use that +1.

Thanks @Spraynpray for the comment that it's broken. Hopefully it comes back.

So Nikon might release another flash with over heating protection that allows 1 flash every 5 minutes so it can cool down? (There is a reason I still use my SB-800)

If I need a flash, it is usually the SB-800..... I really should sell the SB-900 because it has been disappointing because it might melt...

I actually took lenses out of my camera bag and put 1 studio strobe with a battery pack in it because the speed light will never produce the light a studio strobe will after being disappointed by the flagship Nikon flashes after the SB-800.

Me too. It's a great flash and it lasts forever on good batteries.

    +1 autofocus on new rumors.

Nope, not even close. We are at a disruption point with mirrorless, but that is where it will just start getting interesting.

Unlike a lot of people I love to see new gear announcements. Sometimes I'm compelled to buy, other times I just enjoy watching others excitement about something new. It can be lenses, bodies, or any other items. It just seems like Nikon is in a slump and I'm anxiously awaiting the next announcement. I have my mad money tucked away in case it's something I can't live without.

I think CaNikon will milk the DSLR market as long as they can. We will see a D400 (Pro DX) in our lifetime, and we know there is a D5 soon. There are a few more turns of the crank left in the old DSLR because mirrorless will take 5 or so years to fully mature. Even then, some folks will still buy DSLRs for the things they will (still/always) be better at than mirrorless. Even after automatic transmissions were invented, some people still prefer manual. Hell, you can even ride a horse and buggy if you want, even though the automobile has been around for 100 years.

My point exactly. The Amish in Pennsylvania seem to have a similar thing going B-)

Mirrorless... great thing it's smaller and lighter as a general rule. One exception:

Yeah, damn lenses and those pesky laws of physics :-B
And that's a 24-90 f/2.8-4. Imagine how big it would be if it were a constant 2.8!
